Pre-Trek Briefing:

Equipment

Every camping tour includes a spacious 4 man tent that will be shared by only two people so you can spread out a bit. These are all King Camp Tents made for all seasons Our rentals are top of the line: Black Diamond Adjustable Walking Sticks, the Thermarest Air Matts can be rented at our office. Sleeping Bags rented from us are mummy style down bags for -15C and liners are always included.

Food

Every trek includes a chef that has been trained in culinary school. They have learned the magic of mountain cooking and you will be amazed. You will enjoy full breakfast, lunch and dinner all served hot and tasty. We also include Happy Hour with snacks and some hot tea before dinner. The key to feeling good on a trek like this is eating well and staying hydrated.

Meals are all served family style – large plates for everyone to take what they like. And all food restrictions are honored. No matter if you are vegetarian or gluten free, you will always be well fed.

DAY 1: MOLLEPATA – MARCOCASA – CHALLACANCHA – SORAYPAMPA.

We will pick you up from your hotel with our private van at 5:00am. And then you will drive to Marqocasa for around 3 ½ hours, which is also our starting point of the trek (marqocasa 3300m/9500ft). On the way driving we will pass though many town and one of them is Molletapa where we check our entrance feet and also you can use the toilets. then we continue driving to marqocasa for 30 more minutes. In marqocasa our chef will prepare our first delicious breakfast and after breakfast you will start hiking around 9:00am. The beginning of the trek, it will be up hill all the way to lunch spot which will take 3 and half hours. 
Along the way you will see it amazing views of the flora and fauna and the mountains range and also you will appreciate farmlands, little by little you will hike through the mountains, you don’t have to rush, enjoy every moment of the trail, you will have plenty of time to do anything. Your guide will always assist you and giving you inca lesson.

You will have lunch around 1:00pm. After lunch + some siesta, then we keep hiking for about 3 hours to get the first campsite Soraypampa (3900m/12480ft), this part of the trek is almost flat. Enjoy it the views are spectacular.

You will arrive to camp spot at 4:30pm approximately. Enjoy it the views of Humantay Mountain (5800 m /18560ft.) and Salkantay Mountain (6200m/21200ft)

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA – HUMANTAY LAKE – SALKANTAYPAMPA – PAMPAJAPONESA.

Humantay lake! We will get up with coca tea in your tent-room service at 6:00am. enjoy it the delicious breakfast.

Right after breakfast we will start with the official hike lasting about 3 hours round trip up and down, in which you will visit the famous lake Humantay ( 4300m/ 14107Ft.). The lake is amazing and comes from the Humantay glacier (5800m/ 18560ft). It is a good thing to visit the lake and appreciate the glacier, the lake is not that busy because most of the groups take different schedule, so we are the only ones who do this expedition in the morning , and your experience will be unique.

After the expedition of the lake, we return to the trailhead and start the hike to Salkantaypampa (4100m/13120ft) which will be uphill for 2 hours to reach our lunch place Salkantaypampa. We will enjoy the views of Salkantay Mountain from this lunch spot.

After lunch you will only hike 3 more hours to get the campsite called pampa japonesa 4500m, which is still gradual up hill; we normally arrive there around 4:30pm. You will have the impressive views of the Salkantay Mountain.

DAY 3: PAMPAJAPONESA – INCACHIRIASQ’A PASS – PAMPAQ’AWANA.

This is our challenge day!. Because you will go to the highest point in whole our trek called 
Incachiriasq’a pass over 5100m or 16500ft. From highest point you will be able to see 
the most incredible views and you really see the highest Mountain of Cusco region called AUSANGATE Mountain (6400m / 21100ft), 
you will be so close to Salkantay Mountain, and along the way, you will appreciate animals 
like Llamas, Alpacas, Falcons, Condors and much more to see it. And also you will pass through 
the local communities.  It is one of the longest day of our trek and you will probably be the only once at this place because this trek in not popular.                                            
                                                                              

We will get up with coca tea in your tent-room service at 7:00am. And you will start hiking around 8:00am, from the camping spot to the highest point Incachiriasq’a, it will take us 2 hours of walking up, afterwards you will continue descending to get lunch spot, which will take us 3 hours. Lunch will be around 1:00pm with the incredible views.

After delicious lunch + some siesta, we will still continue descending to the camping place called Pampaq’awana (3600m or 11520ft). Which will take us 3 more hours of hiking to get the camping site, on the way down you will meet alpacas, llamas and pass through local villages.

If there is still time we’ll visit the local school where the kids still speak Quechua their native language. If you would like, you can bring some toys, notebooks or any type of school supplies to share everything is welcome to this kids.
You will arrive at camp spot around 4:30pm. The way down will be very gradual and gentle way. And after dinner you will say goodbye to the horsemen.

DAY 4: PAMPAQ’AWANA – PAUCARCANCHA – HUAYLLABAMBA – LLULLUCHAPAMPA.

Today is officially the beginning of the Inca trail! Wake up time will be as always with the amazing service coca tea at 7am. Enjoy it the delicious breakfast and you will start to hike around 8:00am. 
We will still descend to Paucarcancha village 3100m or 10100ft, which will take us 2 hours. In Paucarcancha there is an Inca site; you will visit and have a tour with your Guide and learn more about the Incas. In paucarcancha you say goodbye to horsemen and horses, later you will pass to the first check point of the Inca Trail, which is very close to the Inca site. At the check point you will meet up our porters officially, that they will carry everything for rest of trail, after the check point you will hike gradual downhill for half an hour more to Huayllabamba village 3000m or 9800ft, which is the official place of Inca trail.
You will have lunch in Huayllabamba village.
And after lunch you will continue hiking uphill for 3hours around to get our camping spot called Llulluchapampa over 3800m or 12000ft 
which is going to be the first camp spot on the Inca Trail, on the way you will pass through the cloud forest and also walking already on the Inca steps,
the views on the way spectacular. You will arrive at camp site around 4:00pm. From this camping place you will meet llamas and you will appreciate already 
the highest point of the Inca trail the dead woman pass over 4215m / 13700ft.

DAY 5: LLULLUCHAPAMPA – PACAYMAYU – CHAQUICOCHA.

Today is another long day of hiking. You will get up with the amazing service of coca tea at 6:00am. enjoy it breakfast, then you will start hiking around 7:00am. 
From the camping site to the dead woman pass will be up hill Inca steps, that will take us 2 hours, along the way you will see it just amazing views, at the dead woman pass  4215m or 13700ft; it is just unique place you will stop for a while to get pictures and enjoy the views. Later on you will continue descending Inca steps to lunch called Pacaymayu over 3600m or 11650ft, which will take us 2 hours. Lunch will be 12:00pm.

After lunch + some siesta you will hike 4 hours more to get camping spot Chaquicocha. From the lunch spot to reach the second summit of the Inca Trail will take us 2 hours, on the half way to the summit you will visit an Inca Ruins called Runcuraqay (inca watch tower), and then you continue 1 more hour to get the top. At the second called Runcuraqay pass will have another impressive views and then you will descend all the way down to the camp site called Chaquicocha 3650m or 11700ft, which will take us 2 more hours, on the way down you will be visiting 2 more Inca Ruins called Sayaqmarca and Conchamarca (both temples), this far of the hike is already jungle cloud forest and also the last 30 minutes of walking before camps is almost flat. You will be at camp around 4:00pm. 
This camping place is just unbelievable, because of the views and also is the best camp to see the stars.

DAY 6: CHAQUICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA PASS – WIÑAYWAYNA.

This is shortest day of our hike!. You will get up with the amazing service of coca at 6:00am. You will start hiking around 7:00am. From the camping spot 
to the third pass called Phuyupatamarca will be up and down gentle way almost flat, which will take 2 hours of walking, along the way you will see the most beautiful views, you will be able to see Salkantay Mountain again, Pumasillo mountain, bonanza Mountain and pass through the Inca tunnel and much more.  Little by little you will reach the third pass on the Inca trail.

From third pass phuyupatamarca 3650m / 11680 ft, you will be able to see Machupicchu Mountain, Huaynapicchu Mountain, the mountain range, jungle and much more around. After the third pass; you will go downhill Inca steps and which will take us 3 hours and half to get the last camp site wiñaywayna, on the way down you will be visiting 2 big Inca Ruins called Phuyupatamarca and Intipata (temple and agriculture), and also you will see one of 
the most wonderful canyon, you will get the camp site called Wiñaywayna around 1:00pm. After lunch you won’t hike any more until the next day. But in the afternoon after your free time, you are going to visit the most beautiful Inca site along the Inca trail called Wiñaywayna 2650m /8650ft, which is only 10 minutes of walking from camp spot. 
You will explore and have tour guiding and then you return to camps site to enjoy the last happy hour and dinner and say goodbye to the chef and porters. For us very important how happy you are about the services, in this case tip is optional.

DAY 7: WIÑAYWAYNA – SUNGATE – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO.

The magical day!. This is the important day; everyone will be excited about today. You will get up very early because you will have to do a quite or line at the check point and this check point opens at 5:30am every day, it means you will start to hike at 5:30am. The hike will take only 2 hours to Machupicchu. From campsite to Sun gate It will take one hour to, this part of the trek it will be up and down almost flat and the last 15 minutes it will be upstairs to get the Sun gate. From the Sun gate you will have the first views of Machupicchu, enjoy it this moment. Then you will go gradual downhill which will take one more hour to Machupicchu. You will arrive
there around 7:30am. once you get there your guide will take you to the best place to take the classic photos of Machupicchu. Then you will have to go to main check point at Machupicchu. Later on you will have the guiding tour,which will take 2 hours approximately, after the guiding tour you will get your free time to visit by yourself. 
After Machupicchu you will catch a bus to Aguas Calientes town which will take half an hour, you will meet your tour guide again at Aguas calientes town who will provide your train ticket. (train ticket expedition is at 2:55pm or 3:20om) And celebrate since you successfully completed your adventure to Machupicchu, you deserve it.

Your transportation back in Cusco, it will be by train and van. From Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo town, it will be by train, which will take 1 hour and half, then from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, it will be by our private van, which will take 2 hours. 
All transportation back in Cusco or anywhere will be to your hotel.

Note: If you are interested about Huaynapicchu Mountain let us know before doing any tour in PERU, because there is a limit per day, only 400 people are able to climb the mountain and also all our tour guides will take you to the official place to take the classic pictures of Machupicchu.

CONSIDERATIONS:

Don’t forget you are hiking (above 4,200m/ 14,000ft, 4000m/13,700ft), make sure you are fully prepared. this trek is challenging and very rewarding at the same time. you should be in shape and healthy. We really recommend you to spend at least two to three days in Cusco or in other places with the same elevation to acclimatize and drink plenty of fluid before starting the hike.

DO I NEED TO BE FIT?

Well all the treks Inca trail, Ancascocha trek, Inca Quarry Trek, Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Ausangate trek or whatever trek are moderately difficult, at least you need to train like go running, gym, hike a little bit or do any exercise. On the trail you will have enough time do anything, if you are hiking slow on the way that’s not problem take your time enjoy yourself because our tour guides will be ready to help at any times.
Please when you will be going high altitudes, go slowly and steady and drink a lot water and of course drink the magical coca tea.

How long in advance should I book for the Inca trail?

Inca Trail is busy almost all year; high season is May, Jun and July and government allow only 500 people per day as permission. You have to book 5, 6, 7 months in advance before doing the Inca Trail.

For the alternative trek or any Machu Picchu tours: Ancascocha Treks, Inca Quarry Trek, Lares trek, salkantay, Huchuy Qosqo etc. You can book three months in advance before doing the trek or any tour.

How can I proceed to book a reservation for the Inca trail?

Sending your main Departure date and back up date: 
You must provide us a main date and a backup date. By providing us with a main date and a backup date for your trek classic Inca Trail, you automatically authorize Runas Expeditions to use either of these dates for your reservation. Runas Expeditions within the next 24 hours, we will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek. And will be required to make a deposit of 20% or 200$ USA of the total price of the Inca Trail. If you want more information just follow the website or contact us.

How can I proceed to book a reservation for the altervative treks?

The same as the Inca Trail, sending your departure date and backup date:
You must provide us a main date and a backup date. By providing us with a main date and a backup date for your trek classic, you automatically authorize Runas Expeditions to use either of these dates for your reservation. Runas Expeditions within the next 24 hours, we will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek and also you have to do a deposited of 200$ usa or 20% of the total price of the trip. 

How many days in advance is recommended to BE in Cusco?

How far in advance must one check in at the ROYAL ADVENTURE Office to guarantee the reservation?All the hiker from any treks, we high recommended to be in Cusco 1 or 2 days before doing the trek or any tour in order to acclimatize with high elevation. The last details about your trek (to pay the remaining balance) should be at the Runas Expeditions office at least two days prior to departure.

HOW TO MAKE A DEPOSIT?

We are Unable to accept any bookings without completed booking form and deposit sent to Runas Expeditions. All deposits are $200 per person and are non-refundable.
We accept payments through PayPal and Visa, they do charge 6% so the total per person is $212 and should be sent to runasexpeditions@gmail.com

NOTE: The client will assume all transaction fees.

CAN I BOOK GROUP SERVICE OR PRIVATE SERVICE.

When you book as Group Service, you will meet people from different nationalities, different ages, and different culture minds, while you are hiking you don’t have to wait for the last one but you will wait at lunch place and camping site because you will share the same food, the same sleeping tents etc.

When you book as Private Service, you will definitely have exclusive service with more details and surprise to you. You will travel just yourself not with other people to share thing, it will selected just two people for honeymooners, for family or a group of friends and normally the groups are small but they could be a big group.

Is there a meeting before the trek?

Of course there will be a meeting at Runas Expeditions office before doing any tours, where you will meet your tour guide, the rest of your group, and be provided with a clear information about your trek or any tours.

Can i rent equipment from Runas expeditions?

Yes, You can. Here you can rent sleeping bag, sleeping tens, trekking poles, inflammable matrass or air mattresses but we don’t rent hiking boots, rain jackets or other personal clothing.

CAN I RENT AN EXTRA PORTER AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY CARRY FOR ME?

Runas Expeditions, you don’t have to pay for extra porter, we included in all our tour extra porter to carry 6 kilos per person (duffle bag), so we are the only tour company who provide this. You will carry just a small daypack.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

We strongly advise you to get travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers bad weather tour cancellations, loss of luggage, etc. Please forward a copy/ policy number to our offices.

How many people will there be in my group?

According to Peruvian laws and regulation on the Inca Trail, the maximum group size is 16 hikers and 2 tour guides. After 9 hikers there will be 2 tour guides, and from 2 hikers to 8 hikers there will be a tour guide. At many times of year, the group size will be smaller.

IF I am travelling by myself. Will I have to share THE SLEEPING tent?

The sleeping tents for all our treks are 4 man tents but we only designed for two people in each thus allowing you more space and comfort. If you are travelling alone and there is an even number of people in your group, you will share the tent with somebody else unless you rent an extra single tent.

ARE THERE TOILETS ALONG THE WAY?

On the Inca Trail there are toilets at every lunch spot and every campsites. The type of toilets are squat toilets and sometimes will be busy, they may become slightly dirty.

We will provide chemical baths on the Inca trail and alternate treks, as these baths are more hygienic

WHAT KIND OF FOOD ARE THERE ON THE TRAIL? Can I GET my dietary needs?

You should not worry about the food; our meals are just amazing and plenty for everyone, the type of food that we provide are buffet so you can eat as much as you want. And definitely we have the best food, by the way you will have four meals per Day Breakfast, Lunch, Happy hour and Dinner.
 Runas Expeditions is able to accommodate many types of needs upon request at the time of booking. If you are vegetarian or any specially diet or any specific allergies, it will not be a problem for. Our international chefs will be able to give you a surprise at every meal and you will have variety of dietary needs.

WILL I GET WATER ALONG THE WAY?

We will provide you boiled water. At Every morning, you will get plenty water from us, and after every lunch you will get more water from us, even if you need water at night just let us know.

Is there a student discount?

Runas Expeditions gives student discounts of %25. You only need to send us your scanned student card at booking time, and your price will be adjusted accordingly.

WHAT TIME WILL I GET BACK TO CUSCO?

We give you all the chance to enjoy more the Inca city Machu Picchu. Our transportation back to Cusco is not early and not late. That’s why we have to book in advance too, because the Train Company Peru Rail provides us all departure times. You will get back to Cusco between 7pm to 8pm.

WHAT TIME WILL I ARRIVE AT MACHUPICCHU?

When you are coming from the Inca Trail, you will arrive to MachuPicchu around 7:30am. But if you are doing any others tour you will arrive to MachuPicchu between 6:30am to 7am or depend on your bokking time.

IS THERE ANY OTHERS THINGS TO DO AT MACHUPICCHU?

After the guiding tour you will have plenty of time to visit by yourself. If you book for the extra climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Macho Picchu Mountain you can do it, or you can go to the Inca Bridge or you can go the Sun Gate or you can just explore at the Inca city.

WHY AND HOW MUCH SHOULD WE TIP THE PORTERS?

Runas Expeditions fully complies with the porter’s Law (27608) requirements of payment and insurance. However, tipping is a tradition on the Inca Trail or any trek that has been taking place for the 20 years as a way of showing the porters your gratitude. Generally the groups prepare a collective tip which is shared out between the cook, head porter and porters. Suggested amount to tip is 90 soles to each porter and 250 soles the cook, from the whole group not from each tourist.
Please Note: to tip to the porters is a personal decision and it is optional.

SHOULD I TIP THE GUIDE?

Tipping the guide is again a personal decision. If you decide to tip we recommend that it is according their performance, knowledge and skills while on the trail. Guides are tipped individually at the end of the trek and tipping depends on their performance!

WHAT HAPPENED IF I GET SICK DO I NEED TO TURN BACK?

We have a very low rate of people turning back once on the trek. Our priority is to help you complete it; all our guides are properly trained and carry a first aid kit and a bottle of oxygen for emergencies. Please do not think about this, be positive mind and definitely you are in good hands.
In the exceptional case that a trekker decides to head back once they have started the trek, they must pay additional expenses such as food, lodging and transportation. On the last day the tourist will be able to rejoin the group and participate in the Machu Picchu tour.

No refund will be given.

Equipment

Every camping tour includes a spacious 4 man tent that will be shared by only two people so you can spread out a bit. These are all King Camp Tents made for all seasons Our rentals are top of the line: Black Diamond Adjustable Walking Sticks, the Thermarest Air Matts can be rented at our office. Sleeping Bags rented from us are mummy style down bags for -15C and liners are always included.

Food

Every trek includes a chef that has been trained in culinary school. They have learned the magic of mountain cooking and you will be amazed. DAY 1: CUSCO – KM82 – TARACHAYOQ – HATUNCHACA

Start our amazing tour. We will pick you up from your hotel at 5:00am. After that you will drive 3 hours in order to get the starting point of the trek km 82 (2800m or 9500ft). In the morning you will drive through the sacred valley of the Incas with amazing views around and one of these places we pass through is Ollantaytambo Inca Town and also we stop to purchase the last stuff for our hike (water, coca leaves etc.), and also we meet our porters and then we keep driving to the starting point of trek Inca Trail km 82. You will have breakfast before hiking which is not far from first check point of the trail, our chef will prepare the first delicious breakfast, and then you will start hiking around 9:00am.

 For us, it is only 6 hours of hiking in whole day, 4 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon, you will take your time, taking your pictures and having a lot of explanations from the tour Guide, the environment and landscape are wonderful and also you will pass through several villages like carpamayu, Mescaq, Taray, Hatunchaca and also you will see and visit the biggest Inca Ruins along the Inca Trail called Llaqtapata (2900m / 9280 ft).  Lunch will be at Tarachayoq village (2850m or 1010ft), and then, we will hike 2 more hours to get camping place called Hatunchaca (2950m or 1010ft). Trail in general is not that hard is flat with little up and down.

Hatunchaca camp is a small village but private for us and our amazing porter will be waiting for you at camp.
Not rush you will have plenty of time to do the trek and also our Tour Guides will be ready to help you at any times.

DAY 2: HATUNCHACA – LLULLUCHAPAMPA – PAQAYMAYU

This is another wonderful day but challenging! We will get up with coca tea in your tent-room service at 6:00am. After breakfast you will start our ascend to Dead Woman pass around 7:30am. Until one point you will probably be the only ones hiking on the trail and having the amazing views of the snow – capped Mountains and the cloud forest on the way, you will be trekking in the morning about 4 hours in order to get lunch which is uphill steps. Lunch will be at llulluchapampa spot (3800m/12160ft), at this place you can purchase the last supplies and also meet some llamas.

After lunch you keep ascending Inca steps for 2 more hours to get Dead Woman Pass (4215m / 13700), which is the highest point in whole Inca Trail, the views at this place is just amazing and the experience is unique, probably not much people around which is even better, after your resting and pictures at summit you will continue to descend for 2 more hours Inca steps to get the camping place called Pacaymayu (3600m or 11700ft), you will be arriving to camp at 4:30pm. The second day has a combination cloud forest and the high lands.

DAY 3: PACAYMAYU – RUNCURACAY PASS – CHAQUICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA

This is another special day! We will get up with coca tea in your tent-room service at 6:00am. After the breakfast we will start to hike uphill Inca steps for 2 hours to the second top, on the way you will see fantastic waterfalls, flora and fauna. Half way up to second top, we will stop to visit another Inca Ruins called Runcuraqay (Inca watch tower) and also it will be nice chance to rest and take more pictures of the valley, from Runcuraqay site you will be able to see Dead Woman Pass again. Then you keep hiking up for 1 more hour to reach the second highest point of the Inca Trail called Runcuraqay Pass (4000m / 12800ft).

At second summit you will have another impressive views of the valley and the snow cups Mountains etc. After the second summit you will continue descending for 2 hours to get our lunch spot, this part of the trail is jungle already cloud forest (beginning of the amazon basin), and you will be visiting another 2 Inca Ruins called Sayaqmarca and Conchamarca (both temples). Lunch spot is called Chaquicocha (3600m/11520ft) and our chef will provide lunch around 12:30pm.

After lunch and some siesta we will walk 2 more hours gently way which is almost flat with another amazing views. Along the way to the third pass Phuyupatamarca you will be able to see the second highest mountain in Cusco Region called Salkantay (6200m /21000ft), Pumasillo Mountain (5750m /18400ft), Bonanza Mountain (5700m /18240ft) and also you will pass through the Inca tunnel, and this part of the trail is original. Little by little you will reach the third Pass Phuyupatamarca (3650m / 11700ft). At Phuyupatamarca camp will have the one of the best views along the trail and also you will be able to see Machupicchu Mountain, Huaynapicchu Mountain and much more around.

This camping place is the best because you will be able to enjoy the stars constellations milky way. Phuyupatamarca is our last camp site.

DAY 4: PHUYUMATAMARCA – WIÑAYNAYNA – SUNGATE – MACHUPICCHU.

Our last day hiking! Today will have the opportunity to enjoy it one of the most spectacular sun sunrises on the Inca trail. You will still hike into the jungle with the amazing views on the way. Today you will go through the Sungate (2700m /8640ft), And you will be at Machu Picchu in the afternoon to enjoy it the Sunset. 

You will wake up with our last super service coca tea at 6:00am and enjoy it the last breakfast in the mountains. After your breakfast, you will start hiking around 7:00am. Right after 10 minutes of walking down Inca steps we will reach the Inca Ruins Phuyupatamarca and have tour with your Guide. Today is mostly downhill from the third pass to Wiñaywayna (2650m/8480ft) will be 3 and half hours of descending stone steps. And little by little on the way we will be hiking into the rain forest which is warm and humid and then reach another Inca Ruins called Intipata (2800m/8960ft). In Intipata you have another incredible views, this Inca Ruins is huge and also you will relax to enjoy it, all the views are unique. Afterwards you will continue descending Inca steps to get our lunch spot Wiñaywayna. Our chef will prepare our last lunch in the Mountains. After lunch it will be the time to say goodbye to your team, chef and porters, for us it is very important how happy you are about the service, your experience with them, in this case people normally tips them at this place. tip is optional.

After lunch we continue with our activities, we will visit the last and the most beautiful Inca Ruins called Wiñaywayna which is only 10 minutes of walking from lunch place, you will have a tour with your Professional Tour Guide and then you continue hiking for 1 and half more hours to get Sun gate. In order to get the Sun gate, we will hike 1 hour almost flat and the last 20 minutes will be uphill Inca steps to reach the Sun gate. From Sun gate you will have the first views of Machu Picchu inca city and, Huaynapicchu Mountain and much more Mountains around. After this place we continue descending gently way to Machu Picchu for one more hour, on the way you will have more chance to take more pictures, once you get Machu Picchu your Tour Guide will take you to the right spot to take the classic photos of Machu Picchu (Sunset).

Then you continue walking down for 10 more minutes to the check point of Machu Picchu to catch a touristic bus from Machupicchu to Aguas Calientes for 30 minutes and then your Tour Guide will take you to your Hotel. Later on we will have dinner in one of the best restaurants in Aguas Calientes.

As option you can go the Hot Spring before dinner.

DAY 5: MACHUPICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO.

The most important! You will get up and have breakfast early at the hotel, because the first bus to Machupicchu is at 5:30am. If you want to enjoy the sunrise at Machu Picchu site, you have to get up early that will be the only way to enjoy it the sunrise. We will drive back half an hour to reach the Inca city Machu Picchu. The Inca ruins Machu Picchu opens at 6:00am. Your guiding tour will take 2 ½ hours approximately. After your tour, you will have free time to explore by your own, so you can explore the Inca Bridge, Machupicchu Mountain, Huaynapicchu Mountain etc. Once you have done, you take a bus back to Aguas Calientes. You will meet up with your tour guide in Aguas Calientes town to get your train ticket, or you can collect your ticket in Machupicchu. (train expedition is at 2:55pm or 3:20pm)

Your transportation back to Cusco will be by train and bus. From Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo town, you will take a train, which will take 1 hour and half. Then, from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, you will take by our private van, which will take 2 hours. 

All transportation back in Cusco or anywhere will be to your hotel.

CONSIDERATIONS:

Don’t forget you are hiking (above 4,200m/ 14,000ft, 4000m/13,700ft), make sure you are fully prepared. this trek is challenging and very rewarding at the same time. you should be in shape and healthy. We really recommend you to spend at least two to three days in Cusco or in other places with the same elevation to acclimatize and drink plenty of fluid before starting the hike.

DO I NEED TO BE FIT?

Well all the treks Inca trail, Ancascocha trek, Inca Quarry Trek, Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Ausangate trek or whatever trek are moderately difficult, at least you need to train like go running, gym, hike a little bit or do any exercise. On the trail you will have enough time do anything, if you are hiking slow on the way that’s not problem take your time enjoy yourself because our tour guides will be ready to help at any times.
Please when you will be going high altitudes, go slowly and steady and drink a lot water and of course drink the magical coca tea.

How long in advance should I book for the Inca trail?

Inca Trail is busy almost all year; high season is May, Jun and July and government allow only 500 people per day as permission. You have to book 5, 6, 7 months in advance before doing the Inca Trail.

For the alternative trek or any Machu Picchu tours: Ancascocha Treks, Inca Quarry Trek, Lares trek, salkantay, Huchuy Qosqo etc. You can book three months in advance before doing the trek or any tour.

How can I proceed to book a reservation for the Inca trail?

Sending your main Departure date and back up date: 
You must provide us a main date and a backup date. By providing us with a main date and a backup date for your trek classic Inca Trail, you automatically authorize Runas Expeditions to use either of these dates for your reservation. Runas Expeditions within the next 24 hours, we will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek. How far in advance must one check in at the ROYAL ADVENTURE Office to guarantee the reservation?All the hiker from any treks, we high recommended to be in Cusco 1 or 2 days before doing the trek or any tour in order to acclimatize with high elevation. The last details about your trek (to pay the remaining balance) should be at the Runas Expeditions office at least two days prior to departure.

HOW TO MAKE A DEPOSIT?

We are Unable to accept any bookings without completed booking form and deposit sent to Runas Expeditions. All deposits are $200 per person and are non-refundable.
We accept payments through PayPal and Visa, they do charge 6% so the total per person is $212 and should be sent to runasexpeditions@gmail.com

CAN I BOOK GROUP SERVICE OR PRIVATE SERVICE.

When you book as Group Service, you will meet people from different nationalities, different ages, and different culture minds, while you are hiking you don’t have to wait for the last one but you will wait at lunch place and camping site because you will share the same food, the same sleeping tents etc.

When you book as Private Service, you will definitely have exclusive service with more details and surprise to you. You will travel just yourself not with other people to share thing, it will selected just two people for honeymooners, for family or a group of friends and normally the groups are small but they could be a big group.

Is there a meeting before the trek?

Of course there will be a meeting at Runas Expeditions office before doing any tours, where you will meet your tour guide, the rest of your group, and be provided with a clear information about your trek or any tours.

Can i rent equipment from Runas expeditions?

Yes, You can. Here you can rent sleeping bag, sleeping tens, trekking poles, inflammable matrass or air mattresses but we don’t rent hiking boots, rain jackets or other personal clothing.

CAN I RENT AN EXTRA PORTER AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY CARRY FOR ME?

Runas Expeditions, you don’t have to pay for extra porter, we included in all our tour extra porter to carry 6 kilos per person (duffle bag), so we are the only tour company who provide this. You will carry just a small daypack.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

We strongly advise you to get travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers bad weather tour cancellations, loss of luggage, etc. Please forward a copy/ policy number to our offices.

How many people will there be in my group?

According to Peruvian laws and regulation on the Inca Trail, the maximum group size is 16 hikers and 2 tour guides. After 9 hikers there will be 2 tour guides, and from 2 hikers to 8 hikers there will be a tour guide. At many times of year, the group size will be smaller.

IF I am travelling by myself. Will I have to share THE SLEEPING tent?

The sleeping tents for all our treks are 4 man tents but we only designed for two people in each thus allowing you more space and comfort. If you are travelling alone and there is an even number of people in your group, you will share the tent with somebody else unless you rent an extra single tent.

ARE THERE TOILETS ALONG THE WAY?

On the Inca Trail there are toilets at every lunch spot and every campsites. The type of toilets are squat toilets and sometimes will be busy, they may become slightly dirty.

We will provide chemical baths on the Inca trail and alternate treks, as these baths are more hygienic

WHAT KIND OF FOOD ARE THERE ON THE TRAIL? Can I GET my dietary needs?

You should not worry about the food; our meals are just amazing and plenty for everyone, the type of food that we provide are buffet so you can eat as much as you want. And definitely we have the best food, by the way you will have four meals per Day Breakfast, Lunch, Happy hour and Dinner.
 Runas Expeditions is able to accommodate many types of needs upon request at the time of booking. If you are vegetarian or any specially diet or any specific allergies, it will not be a problem for. Our international chefs will be able to give you a surprise at every meal and you will have variety of dietary needs.

WILL I GET WATER ALONG THE WAY?

We will provide you boiled water. At Every morning, you will get plenty water from us, and after every lunch you will get more water from us, even if you need water at night just let us know.

Is there a student discount?

Runas Expeditions gives student discounts of %25. You only need to send us your scanned student card at booking time, and your price will be adjusted accordingly.

WHAT TIME WILL I GET BACK TO CUSCO?

We give you all the chance to enjoy more the Inca city Machu Picchu. Our transportation back to Cusco is not early and not late. That’s why we have to book in advance too, because the Train Company Peru Rail provides us all departure times. You will get back to Cusco between 7pm to 8pm.

WHAT TIME WILL I ARRIVE AT MACHUPICCHU?

When you are coming from the Inca Trail, you will arrive to MachuPicchu around 7:30am. But if you are doing any others tour you will arrive to MachuPicchu between 6:30am to 7am or depend on your bokking time.

IS THERE ANY OTHERS THINGS TO DO AT MACHUPICCHU?

After the guiding tour you will have plenty of time to visit by yourself. If you book for the extra climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Macho Picchu Mountain you can do it, or you can go to the Inca Bridge or you can go the Sun Gate or you can just explore at the Inca city.

WHY AND HOW MUCH SHOULD WE TIP THE PORTERS?

Runas Expeditions fully complies with the porter’s Law (27608) requirements of payment and insurance. However, tipping is a tradition on the Inca Trail or any trek that has been taking place for the 20 years as a way of showing the porters your gratitude. Generally the groups prepare a collective tip which is shared out between the cook, head porter and porters. Suggested amount to tip is 90 soles to each porter and 250 soles the cook, from the whole group not from each tourist.
Please Note: to tip to the porters is a personal decision and it is optional.

SHOULD I TIP THE GUIDE?

Tipping the guide is again a personal decision. If you decide to tip we recommend that it is according their performance, knowledge and skills while on the trail. Guides are tipped individually at the end of the trek and tipping depends on their performance!

WHAT HAPPENED IF I GET SICK DO I NEED TO TURN BACK?

We have a very low rate of people turning back once on the trek. Our priority is to help you complete it; all our guides are properly trained and carry a first aid kit and a bottle of oxygen for emergencies. Please do not think about this, be positive mind and definitely you are in good hands.
In the exceptional case that a trekker decides to head back once they have started the trek, they must pay additional expenses such as food, lodging and transportation. On the last day the tourist will be able to rejoin the group and participate in the Machu Picchu tour.

No refund will be given.

Equipment

Every camping tour includes a spacious 4 man tent that will be shared by only two people so you can spread out a bit. These are all King Camp Tents made for all seasons, and the inflatable mattress are included. Our rentals are top of the line: Black Diamond Adjustable Walking Sticks. Sleeping Bags rented from us are mummy style down bags for -15C and liners are always included.

Food

Every trek includes a chef that has been trained in culinary school. They have learned the magic of mountain cooking and you will be amazed. You will enjoy full breakfast, lunch and dinner all served hot and tasty. We also include Happy Hour with snacks and some hot tea before dinner. DAY 1: KM82 – HUAYLLABAMBA – AYAPATA.

Your amazing tours start today. We will pick you up with our private transport from your hotel at 4:30 am. And then we will drive for 3 hours approximately to get the starting point of the Inca Trail. On the way we are going to stop to purchase the last stuff for our trekking and also you can use toilet there (ollantaytambo).
After Ollantaytambo we keep driving to km 82 which is the beginning of trek Inca trail, before hiking our chef will make our delicious breakfast, breakfast place is not that far from the first check point of the Inca trail. We will start to hike at 9:00 am at most. The first day, it’s not really difficult, we will hike 14 kilometers or 9 miles which means, you will hike 7 hours approximately. 

From the beginning of the trek to lunch place will be 4 and half hours, some sections are flat and also up to get our lunch spot. The trek in the morning you will pass through villages like Carpaqmayu, Mesqay, Tarayoq, Hatunchaca, etc. After lunch it will be just 2 more hours uphill zigzag and also you will pass through the last villages of the trail called Huayllabamba (3000m/9600ft). This afternoon hike, it probably will be the difficult part of first day.

Time to arrive campsite called Ayapata (3300 or 10500 ft), it is around 4:30pm. Our porters will be waiting for you at the camping place. 

Don’t worry if you are hiking slowly the professional tour guides are patient, the tour guides will be ready to help you at any times.

DAY 2: AYAPATA – DEAD WOMAN PASS – PACAYMAYU – CHAQUICOCHA.

It’s the longest day. Wake up time is with our amazing coca tea in your tent (room service) at 5am. After breakfast you will be hiking officially on the second day. We will be hiking 16 kilometers or 10 miles. We will climb two mountains, the first mountain, it is the hardest climb to dead woman pass (4200m or 13700ft), it takes 3 and ½ hours from the first camp to the dead woman pass, on the way you have such incredible views of the big Mountains, this part of the Inca trail is original trail and also at the beginning of the second day you will hike into the small forest for 2 hours and then you will reach another camp site called llulluchapampa, and also you are going to meet local shops and toilets. Llullachampampa will be the last place to purchase something until Machu Picchu.

Afterwards you continue going up for 2 hours more to get Dead Woman Pass which is the highest point in all Inca trail, at summit you will rest and enjoy the amazing views and also you are taking your photos, the experience is unique at summit. 
Afterwards we will go downhill Inca steps for 2 hours to get lunch called Pacaymayu (3600m or 11800ft).  enjoy our buffet lunch + time of siesta. After lunch, we will be hiking 4 more hours to reach our camping spot called Chaquicocha (3600m or 11800ft9), which is included the second hill. 

On the way up to the second summit you will be visiting the Inca site called Runcuraqay (inca watch tower), and then you continue 1 more hour to reach the second Pass called Rucuraqay Pass (4000m/12800ft) and the views around is also incredible. After some time on the top you will continue going down for 2 hours more to get our camping spot Chaquicocha. On the way down, you will be visiting two more Inca sites called Sayaqmarca and Conchamarca (both of them are close). Then you walk 30 minutes more to get camp spot and this part of the trail is almost flat and also is cloud forest (beginning of the amazon basin). 

Chaquicocha camp is the best place to enjoy it the stars.

DAY 3: CHAQUICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA PASS – WIÑAYWAYNA.

Third day is our happy day (short day), we will only hike 6 hours, 10 kilometers or 6 miles. Wake up time will be with our amazing coca tea in your tent again at 6am. We start to walk around 7:00am and we will finish around 1:30pm. This day is another unbelievable day, because of the views, the vegetation, Inca sites. The Inca trail is mostly original and much more to enjoy it. Third day you will be able to see the second highest Mountain in Cusco region SALKANTAY Mountain (6270m / 21000ft). And today is mostly jungle and downhill Inca steps.

From the camp spot to the third Pass Phuyupatamarca (3650m/11680ft) will be 2 hours of hiking with little up and down almost flat, once you reach the third Pass you will be able to see Machupicchu and Huaynapicchu Mountain so the views are just incredible. Then we will go downhill Inca steps for 3 and half hours in order to get our camp spot WIÑAYWAYNA (2650m/8480ft), on the way down you will visit two Inca ruins PHUYUPATAMARCA (3600m/11520ft) and INTIPATA (2850m/9120ft), both sites are the best you should go and explore. After Intipata ruins you walk 30 minutes more going down to get lunch & campsite around at 1:30pm.

After lunch you don´t hike any more you rest all afternoon, during this free time you can take a cold shower or take some rest or whatever you want to do. Later on you will visit the most beautiful Inca ruins which is only 10 minutes of walking, the tour Guide will explain everything about the site once you have done this, you go back to camp site to enjoy the last happy hour and dinner, right after dinner you say goodbye to your porters and also that is the time to tip them. For us it´s important how happy you are about the services so in this case tipping is optional.

DAY 4: WIÑAYWAYNA – SUNGATE – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO.

Machupicchu the most important day. The last day, you will just hike 2 hours to Machupicchu, but you need to get up at 3:30am. Why? Two reasons, one of them is our porter they need to catch the first train in the morning and the other one is because everyone gets excited to be first people at Sun gate and Machu Picchu however you take your time on the way.  You have breakfast, after breakfast you walk only 10 minutes to the check point and wait there until rangers open the check point. 

This check point still located by the campsite and opens at 5:30am, you have to do a line for about one hour at the check point. At 5:30am you will hike officially to Machupicchu: first part will be from check point Wiñaywayna to Sungate for 1hour, this part of trail is almost flat for 45 minutes and last 20 minutes will be up steps to get Sun gate. At Sungate you will have the first views of Machu Picchu, from Sungate you really see Machupicchu unless is cloudy. (enjoy it this moment)

Afterwards you continue going down gently way for one more hour to reach Machu Picchu city. Once you get there you will go straight to classic place to take the postcard pictures or classic photos of Machu Picchu, then you go down steps to get the main check point of Machu Picchu and also you have the chance to use the toilets and rest a little bit, by the way the only toilets at Machu Picchu is by the check point make sure to use it before going back in Machu Picchu for your tour.

The Tour at Machu Picchu is around 8:00am in the morning for about 2 hours, you will be visiting the most important places temples, palaces, altar, etc. After the tour you will have free time to visit by your own so you can explore the Inca bridge or the Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain or just stay around Machu Picchu city. Once you have done with Machu Picchu, you catch a bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes town to meet up your tour guide to provide your train ticket and have lunch together. celebrate with your group since you successfully completed your adventure to Machu Picchu and you deserve it.

 After lunch you get ready to go back in Cusco.  (Train expedition service is at 2:55pm or 3:20pm we will confirm you in your briefing time)

Your transportation back in Cusco, it will be by train and bus. From Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo town, it will be by train Expedition, which will take 1 hour and half, then from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, it will be by our private van, which will take 2 hours. 

All transportation back in Cusco or anywhere will be to your hotel.

Don’t forget you are hiking (above 4,200m/ 14,000ft, 4000m/13,700ft), make sure you are fully prepared. this trek is challenging and very rewarding at the same time. you should be in shape and healthy. DO I NEED TO BE FIT?

Well all the treks Inca trail, Ancascocha trek, Inca Quarry Trek, Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Ausangate trek or whatever trek are moderately difficult, at least you need to train like go running, gym, hike a little bit or do any exercise. On the trail you will have enough time do anything, if you are hiking slow on the way that’s not problem take your time enjoy yourself because our tour guides will be ready to help at any times.
Please when you will be going high altitudes, go slowly and steady and drink a lot water and of course drink the magical coca tea.

How long in advance should I book for the Inca trail?

Inca Trail is busy almost all year; high season is May, Jun and July and government allow only 500 people per day as permission. You have to book 5, 6, 7 months in advance before doing the Inca Trail.

For the alternative trek or any Machu Picchu tours: Ancascocha Treks, Inca Quarry Trek, Lares trek, salkantay, Huchuy Qosqo etc. You can book three months in advance before doing the trek or any tour.

How can I proceed to book a reservation for the Inca trail?

Sending your main Departure date and back up date: 
You must provide us a main date and a backup date. By providing us with a main date and a backup date for your trek classic Inca Trail, you automatically authorize Runas Expeditions to use either of these dates for your reservation. Runas Expeditions within the next 24 hours, we will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek. And will be required to make a deposit of 20% or 200$ USA of the total price of the Inca Trail. If you want more information just follow the website or contact us.

How can I proceed to book a reservation for the altervative treks?

You must provide us a main date and a backup date. By providing us with a main date and a backup date for your trek classic, you automatically authorize Runas Expeditions to use either of these dates for your reservation. Runas Expeditions within the next 24 hours, we will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek and also you have to do a deposited of 200$ usa or 20% of the total price of the trip. 

How many days in advance is recommended to BE in Cusco?

How far in advance must one check in at the ROYAL ADVENTURE Office to guarantee the reservation?All the hiker from any treks, we high recommended to be in Cusco 1 or 2 days before doing the trek or any tour in order to acclimatize with high elevation. The last details about your trek (to pay the remaining balance) should be at the Runas Expeditions office at least two days prior to departure.

HOW TO MAKE A DEPOSIT?

We are Unable to accept any bookings without completed booking form and deposit sent to Runas Expeditions. All deposits are $200 per person and are non-refundable.

CAN I BOOK GROUP SERVICE OR PRIVATE SERVICE.

When you book as Group Service, you will meet people from different nationalities, different ages, and different culture minds, while you are hiking you don’t have to wait for the last one but you will wait at lunch place and camping site because you will share the same food, the same sleeping tents etc.

When you book as Private Service, you will definitely have exclusive service with more details and surprise to you. You will travel just yourself not with other people to share thing, it will selected just two people for honeymooners, for family or a group of friends and normally the groups are small but they could be a big group.

Is there a meeting before the trek?

Of course there will be a meeting at Runas Expeditions office before doing any tours, where you will meet your tour guide, the rest of your group, and be provided with a clear information about your trek or any tours.

Can i rent equipment from Runas expeditions?

Yes, You can. Here you can rent sleeping bag, sleeping tens, trekking poles, inflammable matrass or air mattresses but we don’t rent hiking boots, rain jackets or other personal clothing.

CAN I RENT AN EXTRA PORTER AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY CARRY FOR ME?

Runas Expeditions, you don’t have to pay for extra porter, we included in all our tour extra porter to carry 6 kilos per person (duffle bag), so we are the only tour company who provide this. You will carry just a small daypack.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

We strongly advise you to get travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers bad weather tour cancellations, loss of luggage, etc. Please forward a copy/ policy number to our offices.

How many people will there be in my group?

According to Peruvian laws and regulation on the Inca Trail, the maximum group size is 16 hikers and 2 tour guides. After 9 hikers there will be 2 tour guides, and from 2 hikers to 8 hikers there will be a tour guide. At many times of year, the group size will be smaller.

IF I am travelling by myself. Will I have to share THE SLEEPING tent?

The sleeping tents for all our treks are 4 man tents but we only designed for two people in each thus allowing you more space and comfort. If you are travelling alone and there is an even number of people in your group, you will share the tent with somebody else unless you rent an extra single tent.

ARE THERE TOILETS ALONG THE WAY?

On the Inca Trail there are toilets at every lunch spot and every campsites. The type of toilets are squat toilets and sometimes will be busy, they may become slightly dirty.

We will provide chemical baths on the Inca trail and alternate treks, as these baths are more hygienic

WHAT KIND OF FOOD ARE THERE ON THE TRAIL? Can I GET my dietary needs?

You should not worry about the food; our meals are just amazing and plenty for everyone, the type of food that we provide are buffet so you can eat as much as you want. And definitely we have the best food, by the way you will have four meals per Day Breakfast, Lunch, Happy hour and Dinner.
 Runas Expeditions is able to accommodate many types of needs upon request at the time of booking. If you are vegetarian or any specially diet or any specific allergies, it will not be a problem for. Our international chefs will be able to give you a surprise at every meal and you will have variety of dietary needs.

WILL I GET WATER ALONG THE WAY?

We will provide you boiled water. At Every morning, you will get plenty water from us, and after every lunch you will get more water from us, even if you need water at night just let us know.

Is there a student discount?

Runas Expeditions gives student discounts of %25. You only need to send us your scanned student card at booking time, and your price will be adjusted accordingly.

WHAT TIME WILL I GET BACK TO CUSCO?

We give you all the chance to enjoy more the Inca city Machu Picchu. Our transportation back to Cusco is not early and not late. That’s why we have to book in advance too, because the Train Company Peru Rail provides us all departure times. You will get back to Cusco between 7pm to 8pm.

WHAT TIME WILL I ARRIVE AT MACHUPICCHU?

When you are coming from the Inca Trail, you will arrive to MachuPicchu around 7:30am. But if you are doing any others tour you will arrive to MachuPicchu between 6:30am to 7am or depend on your bokking time.

IS THERE ANY OTHERS THINGS TO DO AT MACHUPICCHU?

After the guiding tour you will have plenty of time to visit by yourself. If you book for the extra climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Macho Picchu Mountain you can do it, or you can go to the Inca Bridge or you can go the Sun Gate or you can just explore at the Inca city.

WHY AND HOW MUCH SHOULD WE TIP THE PORTERS?

Runas Expeditions fully complies with the porter’s Law (27608) requirements of payment and insurance. However, tipping is a tradition on the Inca Trail or any trek that has been taking place for the 20 years as a way of showing the porters your gratitude. Generally the groups prepare a collective tip which is shared out between the cook, head porter and porters. Suggested amount to tip is 90 soles to each porter and 250 soles the cook, from the whole group not from each tourist.
Please Note: to tip to the porters is a personal decision and it is optional.

SHOULD I TIP THE GUIDE?

Tipping the guide is again a personal decision. If you decide to tip we recommend that it is according their performance, knowledge and skills while on the trail. Guides are tipped individually at the end of the trek and tipping depends on their performance!

WHAT HAPPENED IF I GET SICK DO I NEED TO TURN BACK?

We have a very low rate of people turning back once on the trek. Our priority is to help you complete it; all our guides are properly trained and carry a first aid kit and a bottle of oxygen for emergencies. Please do not think about this, be positive mind and definitely you are in good hands.
In the exceptional case that a trekker decides to head back once they have started the trek, they must pay additional expenses such as food, lodging and transportation. On the last day the tourist will be able to rejoin the group and participate in the Machu Picchu tour.

Equipment

Every camping tour includes a spacious 4 man tent that will be shared by only two people so you can spread out a bit. These are all King Camp Tents made for all seasons Our rentals are top of the line: Black Diamond Adjustable Walking Sticks, the Thermarest Air Matts can be rented at our office. Sleeping Bags rented from us are mummy style down bags for -15C and liners are always included.

Food

Every trek includes a chef that has been trained in culinary school. They have learned the magic of mountain cooking and you will be amazed. You will enjoy full breakfast, lunch and dinner all served hot and tasty. We also include Happy Hour with snacks and some hot tea before dinner. DAY 1: KM82 – HUAYLLABAMBA – AYAPATA.

Your amazing tours start today. We will pick you up from your hotel at 4:30 am. And then we will drive for 3 hours approximately to get the starting point of the Inca Trail. On the way we are going to stop to purchase the last stuff for our trekking and also you can use toilet there (ollantaytambo).
After Ollantaytambo we keep driving to km 82 which is the beginning of trek Inca trail, before hiking our chef will make our delicious breakfast, breakfast place is not that far from the first check point of the Inca trail. We will start to hike at 9:00 am at most. The first day, it’s not really difficult, we will hike 14 kilometers or 9 miles which means, you will hike 7 hours approximately. 

From the beginning of the trek to lunch place will be 4 and half hours, some sections are flat and also up to get our lunch spot. The trek in the morning you will pass through villages like Carpaqmayu, Mesqay, Tarayoq, Hatunchaca, etc. After lunch it will be just 2 more hours uphill zigzag and also you will pass through the last villages of the trail called Huayllabamba (3000m/9600ft). This afternoon hike, it probably will be the difficult part of first day.

Time to arrive campsite called Ayapata (3300 or 10500 ft), it is around 4:30pm. Our porters will be waiting for you at the camping place. 

Don’t worry if you are hiking slowly the professional tour guides are patient, the tour guides will be ready to help you at any times.

DAY 2: AYAPATA – DEAD WOMAN PASS – PACAYMAYU – CHAQUICOCHA.

It’s the longest day. Wake up time is with our amazing coca tea in your tent (room service) at 5am. After breakfast you will be hiking officially on the second day. We will be hiking 16 kilometers or 10 miles. We will climb two mountains, the first mountain, it is the hardest climb to dead woman pass (4200m or 13700ft), it takes 3 and ½ hours from the first camp to the dead woman pass, on the way you have such incredible views of the big Mountains, this part of the Inca trail is original trail and also at the beginning of the second day you will hike into the small forest for 2 hours and then you will reach another camp site called llulluchapampa, and also you are going to meet local shops and toilets. Llullachampampa will be the last place to purchase something until Machu Picchu.

Afterwards you continue going up for 2 hours more to get Dead Woman Pass which is the highest point in all Inca trail, at summit you will rest and enjoy the amazing views and also you are taking your photos, the experience is unique at summit. 
Afterwards we will go downhill Inca steps for 2 hours to get lunch called Pacaymayu (3600m or 11800ft).  enjoy our buffet lunch + time of siesta. After lunch, we will be hiking 4 more hours to reach our camping spot called Chaquicocha (3600m or 11800ft9), which is included the second hill. 

On the way up to the second summit you will be visiting the Inca site called Runcuraqay (inca watch tower), and then you continue 1 more hour to reach the second Pass called Rucuraqay Pass (4000m/12800ft) and the views around is also incredible. After some time on the top you will continue going down for 2 hours more to get our camping spot Chaquicocha. On the way down, you will be visiting two more Inca sites called Sayaqmarca and Conchamarca (both of them are close). Then you walk 30 minutes more to get camp spot and this part of the trail is almost flat and also is cloud forest (beginning of the amazon basin). 

Chaquicocha camp is the best place to enjoy it the stars.

DAY 3: CHAQUICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA PASS – WIÑAYWAYNA.

Third day is our happy day (short day), we will only hike 6 hours, 10 kilometers or 6 miles. Wake up time will be with our amazing coca tea in your tent again at 6am. We start to walk around 7:00am and we will finish around 1:30pm. This day is another unbelievable day, because of the views, the vegetation, Inca sites. The Inca trail is mostly original and much more to enjoy it. Third day you will be able to see the second highest Mountain in Cusco region SALKANTAY Mountain (6270m / 21000ft). And today is mostly jungle and downhill Inca steps.

From the camp spot to the third Pass Phuyupatamarca (3650m/11680ft) will be 2 hours of hiking with little up and down almost flat, once you reach the third Pass you will be able to see Machupicchu and Huaynapicchu Mountain so the views are just incredible. Then we will go downhill Inca steps for 3 and half hours in order to get our camp spot WIÑAYWAYNA (2650m/8480ft), on the way down you will visit two Inca ruins PHUYUPATAMARCA (3600m/11520ft) and INTIPATA (2850m/9120ft), both sites are the best you should go and explore. After Intipata ruins you walk 30 minutes more going down to get lunch & campsite around at 1:30pm.

After lunch you don´t hike any more you rest all afternoon, during this free time you can take a cold shower or take some rest or whatever you want to do. Later on you will visit the most beautiful Inca ruins which is only 10 minutes of walking, the tour Guide will explain everything about the site once you have done this, you go back to camp site to enjoy the last happy hour and dinner, right after dinner you say goodbye to your porters and also that is the time to tip them. For us it´s important how happy you are about the services so in this case tipping is optional.

DAY 4: WIÑAYWAYNA – SUNGATE – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO.

Machupicchu the most important day. The last day, you will just hike 2 hours to Machupicchu, but you need to get up at 3:30am. Why? Two reasons, one of them is our porter they need to catch the first train in the morning and the other one is because everyone gets excited to be first people at Sun gate and Machu Picchu however you take your time on the way.  You have breakfast, after breakfast you walk only 10 minutes to the check point and wait there until rangers open the check point. 

This check point still located by the campsite and opens at 5:30am, you have to do a line for about one hour at the check point. At 5:30am you will hike officially to Machupicchu: first part will be from check point Wiñaywayna to Sungate for 1hour, this part of trail is almost flat for 45 minutes and last 20 minutes will be up steps to get Sun gate. At Sungate you will have the first views of Machu Picchu, from Sungate you really see Machupicchu unless is cloudy. (enjoy it this moment)

Afterwards you continue going down gently way for one more hour to reach Machu Picchu city. Once you get there you will go straight to classic place to take the postcard pictures or classic photos of Machu Picchu, then you go down steps to get the main check point of Machu Picchu and also you have the chance to use the toilets and rest a little bit, by the way the only toilets at Machu Picchu is by the check point make sure to use it before going back in Machu Picchu for your tour.

The Tour at Machu Picchu is around 8:00am in the morning for about 2 hours, you will be visiting the most important places temples, palaces, altar, etc. After the tour you will have free time to visit by your own so you can explore the Inca bridge or the Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain or just stay around Machu Picchu city. Once you have done with Machu Picchu, you catch a bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes town to meet up your tour guide to provide your train ticket and have lunch together. celebrate with your group since you successfully completed your adventure to Machu Picchu and you deserve it.

 After lunch you get ready to go back in Cusco.  (Train expedition service is at 2:55pm or 3:20pm we will confirm you in your briefing time)

Your transportation back in Cusco, it will be by train and bus. From Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo town, it will be by train Expedition, which will take 1 hour and half, then from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, it will be by our private van, which will take 2 hours.

DO I NEED TO BE FIT?

Well all the treks Inca trail, Ancascocha trek, Inca Quarry Trek, Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Ausangate trek or whatever trek are moderately difficult, at least you need to train like go running, gym, hike a little bit or do any exercise. On the trail you will have enough time do anything, if you are hiking slow on the way that’s not problem take your time enjoy yourself because our tour guides will be ready to help at any times.
Please when you will be going high altitudes, go slowly and steady and drink a lot water and of course drink the magical coca tea.

How long in advance should I book for the Inca trail?

Inca Trail is busy almost all year; high season is May, Jun and July and government allow only 500 people per day as permission. You have to book 5, 6, 7 months in advance before doing the Inca Trail.

How far in advance must one check in at the ROYAL ADVENTURE Office to guarantee the reservation?All the hiker from any treks, we high recommended to be in Cusco 1 or 2 days before doing the trek or any tour in order to acclimatize with high elevation. The last details about your trek (to pay the remaining balance) should be at the Runas Expeditions office at least two days prior to departure.

CAN I BOOK GROUP SERVICE OR PRIVATE SERVICE.

When you book as Group Service, you will meet people from different nationalities, different ages, and different culture minds, while you are hiking you don’t have to wait for the last one but you will wait at lunch place and camping site because you will share the same food, the same sleeping tents etc.

When you book as Private Service, you will definitely have exclusive service with more details and surprise to you. You will travel just yourself not with other people to share thing, it will selected just two people for honeymooners, for family or a group of friends and normally the groups are small but they could be a big group.

Is there a meeting before the trek?

Of course there will be a meeting at Runas Expeditions office before doing any tours, where you will meet your tour guide, the rest of your group, and be provided with a clear information about your trek or any tours.

Can i rent equipment from Runas expeditions?

Yes, You can. Here you can rent sleeping bag, sleeping tens, trekking poles, inflammable matrass or air mattresses but we don’t rent hiking boots, rain jackets or other personal clothing.

CAN I RENT AN EXTRA PORTER AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY CARRY FOR ME?

Runas Expeditions, you don’t have to pay for extra porter, we included in all our tour extra porter to carry 6 kilos per person (duffle bag), so we are the only tour company who provide this. You will carry just a small daypack.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

We strongly advise you to get travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers bad weather tour cancellations, loss of luggage, etc. Please forward a copy/ policy number to our offices.

How many people will there be in my group?

According to Peruvian laws and regulation on the Inca Trail, the maximum group size is 16 hikers and 2 tour guides. After 9 hikers there will be 2 tour guides, and from 2 hikers to 8 hikers there will be a tour guide. At many times of year, the group size will be smaller.

IF I am travelling by myself. Will I have to share THE SLEEPING tent?

The sleeping tents for all our treks are 4 man tents but we only designed for two people in each thus allowing you more space and comfort. If you are travelling alone and there is an even number of people in your group, you will share the tent with somebody else unless you rent an extra single tent.

ARE THERE TOILETS ALONG THE WAY?

On the Inca Trail there are toilets at every lunch spot and every campsites. The type of toilets are squat toilets and sometimes will be busy, they may become slightly dirty.

We will provide chemical baths on the Inca trail and alternate treks, as these baths are more hygienic

WHAT KIND OF FOOD ARE THERE ON THE TRAIL? Can I GET my dietary needs?

You should not worry about the food; our meals are just amazing and plenty for everyone, the type of food that we provide are buffet so you can eat as much as you want. And definitely we have the best food, by the way you will have four meals per Day Breakfast, Lunch, Happy hour and Dinner.
 Runas Expeditions is able to accommodate many types of needs upon request at the time of booking. If you are vegetarian or any specially diet or any specific allergies, it will not be a problem for. Our international chefs will be able to give you a surprise at every meal and you will have variety of dietary needs.

WILL I GET WATER ALONG THE WAY?

We will provide you boiled water. At Every morning, you will get plenty water from us, and after every lunch you will get more water from us, even if you need water at night just let us know.

Is there a student discount?

Runas Expeditions gives student discounts of %25. You only need to send us your scanned student card at booking time, and your price will be adjusted accordingly.

WHAT TIME WILL I GET BACK TO CUSCO?

We give you all the chance to enjoy more the Inca city Machu Picchu. Our transportation back to Cusco is not early and not late. That’s why we have to book in advance too, because the Train Company Peru Rail provides us all departure times. You will get back to Cusco between 7pm to 8pm.

WHAT TIME WILL I ARRIVE AT MACHUPICCHU?

When you are coming from the Inca Trail, you will arrive to MachuPicchu around 7:30am. But if you are doing any others tour you will arrive to MachuPicchu between 6:30am to 7am or depend on your bokking time.

IS THERE ANY OTHERS THINGS TO DO AT MACHUPICCHU?

After the guiding tour you will have plenty of time to visit by yourself. If you book for the extra climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Macho Picchu Mountain you can do it, or you can go to the Inca Bridge or you can go the Sun Gate or you can just explore at the Inca city.

WHY AND HOW MUCH SHOULD WE TIP THE PORTERS?

Runas Expeditions fully complies with the porter’s Law (27608) requirements of payment and insurance. However, tipping is a tradition on the Inca Trail or any trek that has been taking place for the 20 years as a way of showing the porters your gratitude. Generally the groups prepare a collective tip which is shared out between the cook, head porter and porters. Suggested amount to tip is 90 soles to each porter and 250 soles the cook, from the whole group not from each tourist.
Please Note: to tip to the porters is a personal decision and it is optional.

SHOULD I TIP THE GUIDE?

Tipping the guide is again a personal decision. If you decide to tip we recommend that it is according their performance, knowledge and skills while on the trail. Guides are tipped individually at the end of the trek and tipping depends on their performance!

WHAT HAPPENED IF I GET SICK DO I NEED TO TURN BACK?

We have a very low rate of people turning back once on the trek. Our priority is to help you complete it; all our guides are properly trained and carry a first aid kit and a bottle of oxygen for emergencies. Please do not think about this, be positive mind and definitely you are in good hands.
In the exceptional case that a trekker decides to head back once they have started the trek, they must pay additional expenses such as food, lodging and transportation. On the last day the tourist will be able to rejoin the group and participate in the Machu Picchu tour.

DAY 1: CUSCO – KM104 – WIÑAYWAYNA – SUNGATE – MACHU PICCHU SITE – AGUAS CALIENTES TOWN.

We will pick you up from your hotel at 4:00a.m. And then we will drive 1hour and 45 minutes to get the train station in Ollantaytambo town. In Ollantaytambo station we will take the train at 6:10 a.m. Train journey will take 1 hour and half to get our starting point of the trek km 104 (2000m / 6400ft), and train follows the Urubamba river. Be awake because you will see nice views along the train journey like farmlands, some inca sites, snow – capped, and much more to see it, and actually you will go through the Urubamba valley (the sacred valley of the Incas). Km 104 is a train stop for the hikers of the Inca trail so you will get off the train and take the first photos of the expedition and pass the first check point of the Inca trail.

Once you have everything you need and you get ready, your Tour Guide will provide your snacks and your packed lunch. And then you will walk 5 minutes to visit the first Inca Ruins called Chachabamba (inca check point) and have the first explanation providing from the professional tour Guide. Afterwards you will officially start to trek around 8:40am. You will hike up hill Inca steps for 3 hours approximately to get the most beautiful Incan site on the Inca trail called WIÑAYWAYNA, along the way the tour Guide will point out the flora and fauna and explaining more about the Inca history. In Winaywayna site (2650 m / 8480ft), you will have box lunch and then you will explore the site and have a tour with your tour Guide, this inca ruins is amazing, you will have a unique experience. Afterwards we will still keep going to Machu Picchu, which will take 3 more hours max.

From Wiñaywayna you continue hiking for 1 and half more hours to get Sungate. In order to get the Sungate, we will hike 1 hour almost flat and the last 20 minutes will be up hill Inca steps to reach the Sungate. From Sungate you will have the first views of Machupicchu inca cidatel, Huaynapicchu Mountain and much more Mountains around. After this place we continue descending gently way to Machu Picchu for one more hour, on the way will have more chance to take more pictures, once you get Machu Picchu your Tour Guide will take you to the right place to take the classic photos of Machu Picchu (Sunset).

After this momento at Machu Picchu you continue walking down for 10 more minutes to the check point of Machu Picchu to catch a bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes for 30 minutes and then your Tour Guide will take you to your Hotel. Later on we will have dinner in one of the local restaurants, and celebrate completing our hike!

As option you can go the Hot Spring before dinner.

The most important and your magical day! You will get up and have breakfast early at the hotel, because the first bus to Machupicchu is at 5:30am. If you want to enjoy it the sunrise at Machu Picchu, you have to get up early. We will drive half an hour to reach the Inca cidatel Machupicchu. The Inca ruins opens at 6:00am. Your guiding tour in Machu Picchu will take 2 hours approximately. After your tour, you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu by yourself, so you can go to the Inca Bridge, Machupicchu Mountain, Huaynapicchu Mountain etc. Once you have done Machupicchu, you take a bus back to Aguas Calientes. You will meet up with your tour guide in Aguas Calientes town to get your train ticket, or you can collect your ticket in Machu Picchu.

Your transportation back to Cusco will be by train and bus. From Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo town, you will take a train, which will take 1 hour and half. Tren, from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, you will take our private van, which will take 2 hours.

Well all the treks Inca trail, Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Ausangate trek or whatever trek are moderately difficult, at least you need to train like go running, gym, hike a little bit or do any exercise. On the trail you will have enough time do anything, if you are hiking slow on the way that’s not problem take your time enjoy yourself because our tour guides will be ready to help at any times.
Please when you will be going high altitudes, go slowly and steady and drink a lot water and of course drink the magical coca tea.

We have a very low rate of people turning back once on the trek. Our priority is to help you complete it; all our guides are properly trained and carry a first aid kit and a bottle of oxygen for emergencies. Please do not think about this, be positive mind and definitely you are in good hands.
In the exceptional case that a trekker decides to head back once they have started the trek, they must pay additional expenses such as food, lodging and transportation. On the last day the tourist will be able to rejoin the group and participate in the Machu Picchu tour.

Soles are accepted everywhere in Peru. However, at tourist sites you are often able to use American dollars and money exchanges are easy to find it.

Most of the Peruvians speak Spanish which meanly in the cities and about the countryside (communities) people speak Quechua Inca Language; however, many people also speak English especially at the touristic places so you shouldn’t have any communication problems.
