Day 1: Cusco – Patabamba Town – Huchuy Qosqo

We will pick you up at your hotel at 06:00 am for your Huchuy Qosqo trek and then we will drive in our private transport to the village of Patabamba which is at (3,800m/12,467 ft), just1 1/2 hours from Cusco. Once we arrive, we put our backpacks on and get ready to start a gentle hike uphill for the next 3 hours to get to the highest point of our trek (4,200m/13,779ft). From there, we have amazing views of the snow-capped mountains in front of us and the sacred valleys. Then we hike down towards the village of Pucamarca and spend the time at the Inca ruins of Patabamba.

From there, we hike through the original Inca trail into the Inca city of Huchuy Qosqo. There, we have time to explore the Inca Ruins and then we walk to our campsite which at the same place. Later in the afternoon, you will have tea time, and later on we have dinner with your team! If we are lucky we will see the amazing milky way.

Day 2: Huchuy Qosco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

After enjoying delicious breakfast, you will have guided tour of the Huchuy Qosqo Inca ruins, in which you will explore amazing Inca temples, sacred temples, farming terraces, storehouses, water channels, and an original Inca reservoir.  Afterward, you will have time to explore more plaves on your own then we hike downhill to Lamay village for 2 1/2hours. At lamay town we will have our last supper from our Blue team, then we will say goodbye to our crew. After lunch we will take our private transport to Ollantaytambo.

In Ollantaytambo we will explore the stunning inca town because according peruvian government ollantaytambo is the last inca living town and government reccomend to visit it. Later afternoon, we take the train to Aguas Calientes, where we spend the night in a 3star hotel.

Day 3: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

This is the day you’ve been waiting for! We will leave our hotel to take the bus for the journey up to Machu Picchu LLacta. Once we get there, we will visit one of the most important places in the world: Machu Picchu. We will have 2 hours guided tour which will take us into the history of this mysterious and charming Inca ruin. Your guide will expertly direct you through the enigmatic ruins and its most important sites. You will visit the Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Condor, Temple of Three Windows, Sun Dial, Quarry, the House of the Inka, and many different types of architecture.  Then, you have plenty of time for further exploring, taking photos and the option to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain.

After that, we head back to Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon, we take the return Expedition train to Ollantaytambo which departs at 14:55. After 1 hour And a half you will get to Ollantaytambo where our driver will wait for us then He will take back to Cusco. We will arrive to Cusco at 07:00 pm

CONSIDERATIONS:

Don’t forget you are hiking (above 4,750m/ 15,200ft, 4300m/13,800ft), make sure you are fully prepared. this trek is challenging and very rewarding at the same time. you should be in shape and healthy. We really recommend you to spend at least two to three days in Cusco or in other places with the same elevation to acclimatize and drink plenty of fluid before starting the hike.

DO I NEED TO BE FIT?

Well all the treks Ancascocha trek, Inca Quarry Trek, Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Ausangate trek or whatever trek are moderately difficult, at least you need to train like go running, gym, hike a little bit or do any exercise. On the trail you will have enough time do anything, if you are hiking slow on the way that’s not problem take your time enjoy yourself because our tour guides will be ready to help at any times.
Please when you will be going high altitudes, go slowly and steady and drink a lot water and of course drink the magical coca tea.

How long in advance should I book for this Trek?

For the alternative trek or any Machu Picchu tours: Ancascocha Treks, Inca Quarry Trek, Lares trek, salkantay, Huchuy Qosqo etc. You can book three months in advance before doing the trek or any tour to Machu Picchu.

How can I proceed to book a reservation for the altervative treks?

The same as the Inca Trail, sending your departure date and backup date:
You must provide us a main date and a backup date. By providing us with a main date and a backup date for your trek classic, you automatically authorize Runas Expeditions to use either of these dates for your reservation. Runas Expeditions within the next 24 hours, we will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek and also you have to do a deposited of 200$ usa or 20% of the total price of the trip. 

How many days in advance is recommended to BE in Cusco? How far in advance must one check in at the ROYAL ADVENTURE Office to guarantee the reservation?

All the hiker from any treks, we high recommended to be in Cusco 1 or 2 days before doing the trek or any tour in order to acclimatize with high elevation. The last details about your trek (to pay the remaining balance) should be at the Runas Expeditions office at least two days prior to departure.

HOW TO MAKE A DEPOSIT?

We are Unable to accept any bookings without completed booking form and deposit sent to Runas Expeditions. All deposits are $200 per person and are non-refundable.

CAN I BOOK GROUP SERVICE OR PRIVATE SERVICE.

When you book as Group Service, you will meet people from different nationalities, different ages, and different culture minds, while you are hiking you don’t have to wait for the last one but you will wait at lunch place and camping site because you will share the same food, the same sleeping tents etc.

When you book as Private Service, you will definitely have exclusive service with more details and surprise to you. You will travel just yourself not with other people to share thing, it will selected just two people for honeymooners, for family or a group of friends and normally the groups are small but they could be a big group.

Is there a meeting before the trek?

Of course there will be a meeting at Runas Expeditions office before doing any tours, where you will meet your tour guide, the rest of your group, and be provided with a clear information about your trek or any tours.

Can i rent equipment from Runas expeditions?

Yes, You can. Here you can rent sleeping bag, sleeping tens, trekking poles, inflammable matrass or air mattresses but we don’t rent hiking boots, rain jackets or other personal clothing.

CAN I RENT AN EXTRA PORTER AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY CARRY FOR ME?

Runas Expeditions, you don’t have to pay for extra porter, we included in all our tour extra porter to carry 8 kilos per person (duffle bag), so we are the only tour company who provide this. You will carry just a small daypack.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

We strongly advise you to get travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers bad weather tour cancellations, loss of luggage, etc. Please forward a copy/ policy number to our offices.

How many people will there be in my group?

According to Peruvian laws and regulation on the Inca Trail, the maximum group size is 16 hikers and 2 tour guides. After 9 hikers there will be 2 tour guides, and from 2 hikers to 8 hikers there will be a tour guide. At many times of year, the group size will be smaller.

IF I am travelling by myself. Will I have to share THE SLEEPING tent?

The sleeping tents for all our treks are 4 man tents but we only designed for two people in each thus allowing you more space and comfort. If you are travelling alone and there is an even number of people in your group, you will share the tent with somebody else unless you rent an extra single tent.

ARE THERE TOILETS ALONG THE WAY?

On the Inca Trail there are toilets at every lunch spot and every campsites. The type of toilets are squat toilets and sometimes will be busy, they may become slightly dirty.

We will provide chemical baths on the Inca trail and alternate treks, as these baths are more hygienic

WHAT KIND OF FOOD ARE THERE ON THE TRAIL? Can I GET my dietary needs?

You should not worry about the food; our meals are just amazing and plenty for everyone, the type of food that we provide are buffet so you can eat as much as you want. And definitely we have the best food, by the way you will have four meals per Day Breakfast, Lunch, Happy hour and Dinner.
 Runas Expeditions is able to accommodate many types of needs upon request at the time of booking. If you are vegetarian or any specially diet or any specific allergies, it will not be a problem for. Our international chefs will be able to give you a surprise at every meal and you will have variety of dietary needs.

WILL I GET WATER ALONG THE WAY?

We will provide you boiled water. At Every morning, you will get plenty water from us, and after every lunch you will get more water from us, even if you need water at night just let us know.

Is there a student discount?

Runas Expeditions gives student discounts of %25. You only need to send us your scanned student card at booking time, and your price will be adjusted accordingly.

WHAT TIME WILL I GET BACK TO CUSCO?

We give you all the chance to enjoy more the Inca city Machu Picchu. Our transportation back to Cusco is not early and not late. That’s why we have to book in advance too, because the Train Company Peru Rail provides us all departure times. You will get back to Cusco between 7pm to 8pm.

WHAT TIME WILL I ARRIVE AT MACHUPICCHU?

When you are coming from the Inca Trail, you will arrive to MachuPicchu around 7:30am. But if you are doing any others tour you will arrive to MachuPicchu between 6:30am to 7am or depend on your bokking time.

IS THERE ANY OTHERS THINGS TO DO AT MACHUPICCHU?

After the guiding tour you will have plenty of time to visit by yourself. If you book for the extra climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Macho Picchu Mountain you can do it, or you can go to the Inca Bridge or you can go the Sun Gate or you can just explore at the Inca city.

WHY AND HOW MUCH SHOULD WE TIP THE PORTERS?

Runas Expeditions fully complies with the porter’s Law (27608) requirements of payment and insurance. However, tipping is a tradition on the Inca Trail or any trek that has been taking place for the 20 years as a way of showing the porters your gratitude. Generally the groups prepare a collective tip which is shared out between the cook, head porter and porters. Suggested amount to tip is 90 soles to each porter and 250 soles the cook, from the whole group not from each tourist.
Please Note: to tip to the porters is a personal decision and it is optional.

SHOULD I TIP THE GUIDE?

Tipping the guide is again a personal decision. If you decide to tip we recommend that it is according their performance, knowledge and skills while on the trail. Guides are tipped individually at the end of the trek and tipping depends on their performance!

WHAT HAPPENED IF I GET SICK DO I NEED TO TURN BACK?

We have a very low rate of people turning back once on the trek. Our priority is to help you complete it; all our guides are properly trained and carry a first aid kit and a bottle of oxygen for emergencies. Please do not think about this, be positive mind and definitely you are in good hands.
In the exceptional case that a trekker decides to head back once they have started the trek, they must pay additional expenses such as food, lodging and transportation. On the last day the tourist will be able to rejoin the group and participate in the Machu Picchu tour.

No refund will be given.

What KIND OF MONEY is used in Peru?

What type of money is most commonly accepted?

Soles are accepted everywhere in Peru. However, at tourist sites you are often able to use American dollars and money exchanges are easy to find it.

This stunning Qeswachaka bridge is located on top of the Apurímac River at about (3,700 meters/ 12,139 feet), in Canas province, Cusco. This handwoven grass bridge spans 108 feet, and is rebuilt every year as communal effort by all the local people of the region. Day 1: Cusco – 4 lakes – Yanaoca – Qeswachaka – Cusco

After early pick-up at 4:30 am from the hotel in Cusco, we will begin to travel towards the famous Qeswachaka Bridge. On the way, we drive through the beautiful town of Pomacanchi, stopping at the famous Four Lakes as Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnacqocha, Pampamarca, and other lookout points where you will have a chance to take pictures and take in the sights. These lagoons have many different uses, fishing, totora hut camps and social activities with motor boats and pedal boats. Each lagoon has its unique individually and multiple species of flora and fauna to observe typical of this region.

After the visit the lakes, we keep traveling to the province of Canas. Then finally, we will reach the dreamed destination, which is the Qeswachaka Inca Bridge (3,700 meter / 12,139 feet) tucked in and connected to the mountain ledges joining together this 33-meter-long and 1.20 meter wide. This bridge is totally active, because every year is renewed by hand using the mountain grass called ichu (straw). Four communities in the area are in-charged to renew this bridge annually. Before carrying out the intricacy of the activity a payment ceremony is made to the Pachamama to get help and protection during process.

During the full day tour to Q’eswachaka bridge, all the travelers will have the chance to walk across the hanging bridge as the Quechuas still do. This will be a very unique experience. Which usually needs a special courage. We will take great pictures of the authentic panorama. After we visited the place, in the mid-afternoon, we will begin our return trip back to Cusco. We arrive back in Cusco to drop you off at your hotel around 5pm. Total driving time: approx 6-7h (round trip)

SOUTH VALLEY – HALF DAY TRIP                           

We will pick you up with our private transportation to begin the South Valley Tour Cusco at 7:30am. This private tour takes you in some of the most beautiful ancient constructions that are somewhat off the beaten path. We start driving through the city of Cusco towards the three of Peru’s ancient wonders located in South Valley of Cusco.

Our first journey will be THE INCA ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF TIPON — it’s one of the great marvels of Incan hydraulic engineering, famous for its aqueducts, canals, fountains which are laid out over the terraces all of them carefully made by Incas. In Addition, The Inca archaeological site of Tipon also has one of the most elaborate examples of agricultural terracing created by the Incas and it’ss made up of baths, a temple complex, canals, aqueducts, and tall terraces. Nowadays, The Tipon Archeological Complex has been distinguished as a marvel of civil engineering by the American Society of Civil Engineering. We will visit for about an hour.

Afterwards, we go to PIKILLACTA— it’s a pre-Incan archaeological site that belongs to Wari culture and it was built around 700 to 900 years AD, the pre-Inca site was once a cult headquarters and an administrative center for the great pre-Incan Wari culture. In addition, in the area, you can see qolcas (food deposits), athletics fields, houses, temples, narrow streets and buildings up to four stories high. Pikillacta pre-Incan archaeological is a fine example of their planned urban engineering. There is also a small Inca site just a short walk from Pikillacta, known as Rumicolca, which was a checkpoint for the Incas. The pre-Incan Wari culture is the second largest empire in SouthAmerica after the Incan empire, very well known for its great urban layout, which was the architectural key to inherit the Incan empire. We then continue on to Andahuaylillas.

Next, we will visit the ANDAHUAYLILLAS – it’s an astonishing colonial church from XVII century “the Church of St. Peter, the Apostle”, located in Andahuaylillas town in the southeast of Cusco. This colonial era church home to golden altars, paintings with its murals that cover the walls and the ceiling. The artwork is so fine that the church is called “the Sistine Chapel of the Americas” and, was made by local Quechuans during the colony of Spain. Also, some paintings from the famous “Escuela Cuzqueña” can be appreciated. After our fascinating South Valley Tour Cusco, we will return to Cusco. The whole trip takes about 5 hours.

Equipment

Every camping tour includes a spacious 4 man tent that will be shared by only two people so you can spread out a bit. These are all King Camp Tents made for all seasons Our rentals are top of the line: Black Diamond Adjustable Walking Sticks, the Thermarest Air Matts can be rented at our office. Sleeping Bags rented from us are mummy style down bags for -15C and liners are always included.

Food

Every trek includes a chef that has been trained in culinary school. They have learned the magic of mountain cooking and you will be amazed. You will enjoy full breakfast, lunch and dinner all served hot and tasty. We also include Happy Hour with snacks and some hot tea before dinner. Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay lake – Sorococcha.

Your Salkantay Trek begins at 4:30am when we pick you up from your hotel and drive in our private van for 3 hours to the Soraypampa trailhead. As we travel along curvy roads in the Andes, you will have views of the villages Izcuchaca and Limatambo, the surrounding valleys and the famous snow-capped Salkantay Mountain. At the Soraypampa trailhead, we have our delicious and hearty breakfast while enjoying the spectacular views of the Humantay Mountain (5,900m/ 19,356ft) and Salkantay Mountain (6,217m/ 20,396ft).

We then take a 2.5 hours round-trip hike up to visit the turquoise Humantay Lake. where you get to take in the beautiful, crystalline-blue waters of the Humantay Lake. Take some time to be mesmerized by the beauty of such an incredible creation of nature, then hike back down to the starting point to continue with your trek to Salkantay Pampa, where you will enjoy a hot lunch.

afterwards, we make our way to our first campsite at Soroccocha (4,400m / 14,517ft), situated at the foot of the towering Salkantay Mountain. At camp, will have afternoon tea to warm up and appetizers waiting for us. Your tents will already be set up and you can settle in before dinner.

Day 2: Sorococha – Salkantay Pass -Huayracmachay – Chaullay – Lucmabamba

Your guide will wake you with a hot mug of coffee or tea to enjoy in your sleeping bag before you get up for breakfast. After a tasty breakfast we continue onwards and upwards for one hour, we reach Salknatay Pass (4,650m / 15,367ft). Your will feel truly awed by the spectacular views of these three towering snow-capped mountains: Salkantay, Humantay,Puma-Sillo. These peaks are considered sacred by the Local people and your guide will tell you about how important these Mountains are in traditional Andean beliefs. Below you are spectacular rivers of whitewater and small scenic lakes. Then we head down for 2 hours  to  Huayracmachay for our hot lunch. Then we descend for 3 hours toward the rural community of Chayllay and  Along the way, you will love the refreshing lush green valleys and spectacular waterfalls. You have crossed over from the dry Andean highlands and are descending towards the warm and humid Amazon!

Then we will take the local transpotation to Lucmabamba where we will camp.

After another hot drink enjoyed in your sleeping tent, you will be treated to the last delicious breakfast prepared by our chef. From here, we walk in the footsteps of the Inca, along the ancient and remote Inca Trail for 3 hours uphill to the Puncuyoc Pass (2,700m/8,858ft). Along the way, you will be amazed at the incredible views of deep valleys reaching into the distance with their fruit plantations. We finally arrive to Llactapata Inca Ruins; located right across the valley front Machu Picchu. There, we take time to enjoy the strategic location of the Citadel of Machu Picchu. From there, we descend for 2 hours to the hydroelectric plant where we have lunch. Afterwards we walk 3 more hours from hydroelectric to Aguas Calientes Town. Later on, we have dinner in one of the Local restaurants.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

This is the day you’ve been waiting for! After an early breakfast at your hotel, you’ll take one of the first busses up to Machu Picchu, so that you can be there to witness the sunrise. It is a truly extraordinary site and not something you’ll want to miss! Your guide will give you the full tour, which takes about two hours. You will see all of the most important parts of Machu Picchu, including the Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Condor, Temple of Three Windows, Sun Dial, Quarry etc.

After your tour, those who have booked in advance for an extra hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain will have time to enjoy those views on their own. When you have had your fill of the exceptional views of Machu Picchu, you will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). Depending on your train departure time, you may also have time for some shopping, sightseeing or a visit to the museum or hot springs. Your train will depart at 14:55 or 15:20.

Don’t forget you are hiking (above 4650 m / 14880 ft, 4000m/13,700ft), make sure you are fully prepared. this trek is challenging and very rewarding at the same time. you should be in shape and healthy. We really recommend you to spend at least two to three days in Cusco or in other places with the same elevation to acclimatize and drink plenty of fluid before starting the hike.

DO I NEED TO BE FIT?

Well all the treks Ancascocha trek, Inca Quarry Trek, Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Ausangate trek or whatever trek are moderately difficult, at least you need to train like go running, gym, hike a little bit or do any exercise. On the trail you will have enough time do anything, if you are hiking slow on the way that’s not problem take your time enjoy yourself because our tour guides will be ready to help at any times.
Please when you will be going high altitudes, go slowly and steady and drink a lot water and of course drink the magical coca tea.

How long in advance should I book for this Trek?

For the alternative trek or any Machu Picchu tours: Ancascocha Treks, Inca Quarry Trek, Lares trek, salkantay, Huchuy Qosqo etc. You can book three months in advance before doing the trek or any tour to Machu Picchu.

How can I proceed to book a reservation for the altervative treks?

The same as the Inca Trail, sending your departure date and backup date:
You must provide us a main date and a backup date. By providing us with a main date and a backup date for your trek classic, you automatically authorize Runas Expeditions to use either of these dates for your reservation. Runas Expeditions within the next 24 hours, we will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek and also you have to do a deposited of 200$ usa or 20% of the total price of the trip. 

How many days in advance is recommended to BE in Cusco? How far in advance must one check in at the ROYAL ADVENTURE Office to guarantee the reservation?

All the hiker from any treks, we high recommended to be in Cusco 1 or 2 days before doing the trek or any tour in order to acclimatize with high elevation. The last details about your trek (to pay the remaining balance) should be at the Runas Expeditions office at least two days prior to departure.

HOW TO MAKE A DEPOSIT?

We are Unable to accept any bookings without completed booking form and deposit sent to Runas Expeditions. All deposits are $200 per person and are non-refundable.

CAN I BOOK GROUP SERVICE OR PRIVATE SERVICE.

When you book as Group Service, you will meet people from different nationalities, different ages, and different culture minds, while you are hiking you don’t have to wait for the last one but you will wait at lunch place and camping site because you will share the same food, the same sleeping tents etc.

When you book as Private Service, you will definitely have exclusive service with more details and surprise to you. You will travel just yourself not with other people to share thing, it will selected just two people for honeymooners, for family or a group of friends and normally the groups are small but they could be a big group.

Is there a meeting before the trek?

Of course there will be a meeting at Runas Expeditions office before doing any tours, where you will meet your tour guide, the rest of your group, and be provided with a clear information about your trek or any tours.

Can i rent equipment from Runas expeditions?

Yes, You can. Here you can rent sleeping bag, sleeping tens, trekking poles, inflammable matrass or air mattresses but we don’t rent hiking boots, rain jackets or other personal clothing.

CAN I RENT AN EXTRA PORTER AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY CARRY FOR ME?

Runas Expeditions, you don’t have to pay for extra porter, we included in all our tour extra porter to carry 8 kilos per person (duffle bag), so we are the only tour company who provide this. You will carry just a small daypack.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

We strongly advise you to get travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers bad weather tour cancellations, loss of luggage, etc. Please forward a copy/ policy number to our offices.

How many people will there be in my group?

According to Peruvian laws and regulation on the Inca Trail, the maximum group size is 16 hikers and 2 tour guides. After 9 hikers there will be 2 tour guides, and from 2 hikers to 8 hikers there will be a tour guide. At many times of year, the group size will be smaller.

IF I am travelling by myself. Will I have to share THE SLEEPING tent?

The sleeping tents for all our treks are 4 man tents but we only designed for two people in each thus allowing you more space and comfort. If you are travelling alone and there is an even number of people in your group, you will share the tent with somebody else unless you rent an extra single tent.

ARE THERE TOILETS ALONG THE WAY?

On the Inca Trail there are toilets at every lunch spot and every campsites. The type of toilets are squat toilets and sometimes will be busy, they may become slightly dirty.

We will provide chemical baths on the Inca trail and alternate treks, as these baths are more hygienic

WHAT KIND OF FOOD ARE THERE ON THE TRAIL? Can I GET my dietary needs?

You should not worry about the food; our meals are just amazing and plenty for everyone, the type of food that we provide are buffet so you can eat as much as you want. And definitely we have the best food, by the way you will have four meals per Day Breakfast, Lunch, Happy hour and Dinner.
 Runas Expeditions is able to accommodate many types of needs upon request at the time of booking. If you are vegetarian or any specially diet or any specific allergies, it will not be a problem for. Our international chefs will be able to give you a surprise at every meal and you will have variety of dietary needs.

WILL I GET WATER ALONG THE WAY?

We will provide you boiled water. At Every morning, you will get plenty water from us, and after every lunch you will get more water from us, even if you need water at night just let us know.

Is there a student discount?

Runas Expeditions gives student discounts of %25. You only need to send us your scanned student card at booking time, and your price will be adjusted accordingly.

WHAT TIME WILL I GET BACK TO CUSCO?

We give you all the chance to enjoy more the Inca city Machu Picchu. Our transportation back to Cusco is not early and not late. That’s why we have to book in advance too, because the Train Company Peru Rail provides us all departure times. You will get back to Cusco between 7pm to 8pm.

WHAT TIME WILL I ARRIVE AT MACHUPICCHU?

When you are coming from the Inca Trail, you will arrive to MachuPicchu around 7:30am. But if you are doing any others tour you will arrive to MachuPicchu between 6:30am to 7am or depend on your bokking time.

IS THERE ANY OTHERS THINGS TO DO AT MACHUPICCHU?

After the guiding tour you will have plenty of time to visit by yourself. If you book for the extra climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Macho Picchu Mountain you can do it, or you can go to the Inca Bridge or you can go the Sun Gate or you can just explore at the Inca city.

WHY AND HOW MUCH SHOULD WE TIP THE PORTERS?

Runas Expeditions fully complies with the porter’s Law (27608) requirements of payment and insurance. However, tipping is a tradition on the Inca Trail or any trek that has been taking place for the 20 years as a way of showing the porters your gratitude. Generally the groups prepare a collective tip which is shared out between the cook, head porter and porters. Suggested amount to tip is 90 soles to each porter and 250 soles the cook, from the whole group not from each tourist.
Please Note: to tip to the porters is a personal decision and it is optional.

SHOULD I TIP THE GUIDE?

Tipping the guide is again a personal decision. If you decide to tip we recommend that it is according their performance, knowledge and skills while on the trail. Guides are tipped individually at the end of the trek and tipping depends on their performance!

WHAT HAPPENED IF I GET SICK DO I NEED TO TURN BACK?

We have a very low rate of people turning back once on the trek. Our priority is to help you complete it; all our guides are properly trained and carry a first aid kit and a bottle of oxygen for emergencies. Please do not think about this, be positive mind and definitely you are in good hands.
In the exceptional case that a trekker decides to head back once they have started the trek, they must pay additional expenses such as food, lodging and transportation. On the last day the tourist will be able to rejoin the group and participate in the Machu Picchu tour.

No refund will be given.

What type of money is most commonly accepted?

Soles are accepted everywhere in Peru. However, at tourist sites you are often able to use American dollars and money exchanges are easy to find it.

Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Soyroccocha

Your adventure begins at 5am when we pick you up at your hotel in our van and drive to the trailhead at Soraypampa. Along the way, you pass through two picturesque indigenous villages called Iscuchaca and Limatambo. In addition, you will have spectacular views of stunning valleys and the snow-capped, famous Salkantay Mountain.

Once we reach the trailhead in Soraypampa, we power up with breakfast while admiring the breathtaking views of the mountain glaciers of Humantay (19,356 feet) and Salkantay (20,396 feet). We then take a 2.5 hours round-trip hike up to visit the turquoise Humantay Lake. Next, we take about one and a half hours to ascend to Salkantay Pampa, where you can look forward to a great lunch in front of the majestic glacier.

Next, we make our way to our first campsite at Soroccocha, situated at the foot of the towering Salkantay Mountain. At camp, will have afternoon tea to warm up and appetizers waiting for us. Your tents will already be set up and you can settle in before dinner.

Day 2: Soyroccocha – Salkantay Pass – Colpapampa

Your guide will wake you with a hot mug of tea or coffee in your tent before you get up for breakfast. After a hearty and delicious breakfast, we continue our Salkantay journey with a climb for about an hour to arrive at the trek’s highest point, salkantay pass at 4,650m / 15,367ft. At the pass, we take some well-deserved photos and enjoy looking at the massive snow-capped mountains Huallanay, Humantay and Salkantay towering above us and at the lakes and rivers below.

As a side trip, we take 30 minutes to enjoy the exquisite and panoramic, turquoise Salkantay Lake. Afterwards, we continue down to Rayanniyoc for lunch. Then, we trek for a couple of hours at our final stop for the day at our camp near the tiny village of Colpapampa. Hot drinks and appetizers will once again be waiting for you when you arrive.

Day 3: Colpapampa – the Hot Springs – Lucmabamba

This day marks the time we’ve passed our midway point. We start walking to our next destination, Lucmabamba. During this time of your journey, you’ll see a variety of wonders, including birds, fruit plantations with their flowering orchards and cacao and coffee trees. We’ll reach our destination for lunch with plenty of time to relax.

After lunch, we’ll tour a coffee plantation close to the campsite. Here we take a relaxing tour, where we get to learn about the source of Peruvian coffee, which is increasingly popular around the world. We begin by browsing the fields, learning about the different types of beans and picking our own.  Then, we roast and grind them into coffee. Finally, we get to brew and drink our own coffee! It is a truly unique experience. Co-existing with fields of tomatoes and avocados are multiple ecosystems with another astonishing variety of flora and fauna.

As Option: Around 3pm, we’ll take local transportation for 50 minutes to Cocalmayo, where you can bathe in the natural hot springs. We come back to camp relaxed and hungry for our dinner, made with the fruits and vegetables that we picked today. Or you can just relax at camp for the next day.

Day 4: Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes

After another hot drink enjoyed in your sleeping tent, you will be treated to the last delicious breakfast prepared by our chef. From here, we walk in the footsteps of the Inca, along the ancient and remote Inca Trail for 3 hours uphill to the Puncuyoc Pass (2,700m/8,858ft). Along the way, you will be amazed at the incredible views of deep valleys reaching into the distance with their fruit plantations. We finally arrive to Llactapata Inca Ruins; located right across the valley front Machu Picchu. There, we take time to enjoy the strategic location of the Citadel of Machu Picchu. From there, we descend for 2 hours to the hydroelectric plant where we have lunch. Afterwards we walk 3 more hours from hydroelectric to Aguas Calientes Town. Later on, we have dinner in a local restaurant.

As option you can go to the hot spring!

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

This is the day you’ve been waiting for! After an early breakfast at your hotel, you’ll take one of the first busses up to Machu Picchu, so that you can be there to witness the sunrise. It is a truly extraordinary site and not something you’ll want to miss! Your guide will give you the full tour, which takes about two hours. You will see all of the most important parts of Machu Picchu, including the Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Condor, Temple of Three Windows, Sun Dial, Quarry etc.

After your tour, those who have booked in advance for an extra hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain will have time to enjoy those views on their own. When you have had your fill of the exceptional views of Machu Picchu, you will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). Depending on your train departure time, you may also have time for some shopping, sightseeing or a visit to the museum or hot springs. Your train will depart at 14:55 or 15:20.

The train will take you back to Ollantaytambo, following the spectacular Urubamba River. Our driver will meet you at the exit from the train station to take you back to your hotel in Cusco in our private van. You can expect to arrive at your hotel by 7:00pm.

Don’t forget you are hiking (above 4650 m / 14880 ft, 4000m/13,700ft), make sure you are fully prepared. this trek is challenging and very rewarding at the same time. you should be in shape and healthy. We really recommend you to spend at least two to three days in Cusco or in other places with the same elevation to acclimatize and drink plenty of fluid before starting the hike.

Trekking Accomodation: This amazing alternative trek provides the best camping spots which are pretty much private. Every camping tour includes a spacious 4 man tent that will be shared by only two people so you can spread out a bit and also we included pillow with Sleeping mattress (foam).

Hotel 3start: The last night is spent at a Hotel in the Aguas Caliente Town, rather than camping. This 3 star hotel is included in the trek cost, and is based on a shared room (Double occupancy).

DO I NEED TO BE FIT?

Well all the treks Ancascocha trek, Inca Quarry Trek, Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Ausangate trek or whatever trek are moderately difficult, at least you need to train like go running, gym, hike a little bit or do any exercise. On the trail you will have enough time do anything, if you are hiking slow on the way that’s not problem take your time enjoy yourself because our tour guides will be ready to help at any times.
Please when you will be going high altitudes, go slowly and steady and drink a lot water and of course drink the magical coca tea.

How long in advance should I book for this Trek?

For the alternative trek or any Machu Picchu tours: Ancascocha Treks, Inca Quarry Trek, Lares trek, salkantay, Huchuy Qosqo etc. You can book three months in advance before doing the trek or any tour to Machu Picchu.

How can I proceed to book a reservation for the altervative treks?

The same as the Inca Trail, sending your departure date and backup date:
You must provide us a main date and a backup date. By providing us with a main date and a backup date for your trek classic, you automatically authorize Runas Expeditions to use either of these dates for your reservation. Runas Expeditions within the next 24 hours, we will send you an electronic receipt confirming your trek has been officially booked and also to confirm the exact departure date of your trek and also you have to do a deposited of 200$ usa or 20% of the total price of the trip. 

How many days in advance is recommended to BE in Cusco? How far in advance must one check in at the ROYAL ADVENTURE Office to guarantee the reservation?

All the hiker from any treks, we high recommended to be in Cusco 1 or 2 days before doing the trek or any tour in order to acclimatize with high elevation. The last details about your trek (to pay the remaining balance) should be at the Runas Expeditions office at least two days prior to departure.

HOW TO MAKE A DEPOSIT?

We are Unable to accept any bookings without completed booking form and deposit sent to Runas Expeditions. All deposits are $200 per person and are non-refundable.

CAN I BOOK GROUP SERVICE OR PRIVATE SERVICE.

When you book as Group Service, you will meet people from different nationalities, different ages, and different culture minds, while you are hiking you don’t have to wait for the last one but you will wait at lunch place and camping site because you will share the same food, the same sleeping tents etc.

When you book as Private Service, you will definitely have exclusive service with more details and surprise to you. You will travel just yourself not with other people to share thing, it will selected just two people for honeymooners, for family or a group of friends and normally the groups are small but they could be a big group.

Is there a meeting before the trek?

Of course there will be a meeting at Runas Expeditions office before doing any tours, where you will meet your tour guide, the rest of your group, and be provided with a clear information about your trek or any tours.

Can i rent equipment from Runas expeditions?

Yes, You can. Here you can rent sleeping bag, sleeping tens, trekking poles, inflammable matrass or air mattresses but we don’t rent hiking boots, rain jackets or other personal clothing.

CAN I RENT AN EXTRA PORTER AND HOW MUCH WILL THEY CARRY FOR ME?

Runas Expeditions, you don’t have to pay for extra porter, we included in all our tour extra porter to carry 8 kilos per person (duffle bag), so we are the only tour company who provide this. You will carry just a small daypack.

DO I NEED INSURANCE?

We strongly advise you to get travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers bad weather tour cancellations, loss of luggage, etc. Please forward a copy/ policy number to our offices.

How many people will there be in my group?

According to Peruvian laws and regulation on the Inca Trail, the maximum group size is 16 hikers and 2 tour guides. After 9 hikers there will be 2 tour guides, and from 2 hikers to 8 hikers there will be a tour guide. At many times of year, the group size will be smaller.

IF I am travelling by myself. Will I have to share THE SLEEPING tent?

The sleeping tents for all our treks are 4 man tents but we only designed for two people in each thus allowing you more space and comfort. If you are travelling alone and there is an even number of people in your group, you will share the tent with somebody else unless you rent an extra single tent.

ARE THERE TOILETS ALONG THE WAY?

On the Inca Trail there are toilets at every lunch spot and every campsites. The type of toilets are squat toilets and sometimes will be busy, they may become slightly dirty.

We will provide chemical baths on the Inca trail and alternate treks, as these baths are more hygienic

WHAT KIND OF FOOD ARE THERE ON THE TRAIL? Can I GET my dietary needs?

You should not worry about the food; our meals are just amazing and plenty for everyone, the type of food that we provide are buffet so you can eat as much as you want. And definitely we have the best food, by the way you will have four meals per Day Breakfast, Lunch, Happy hour and Dinner.
 Runas Expeditions is able to accommodate many types of needs upon request at the time of booking. If you are vegetarian or any specially diet or any specific allergies, it will not be a problem for. Our international chefs will be able to give you a surprise at every meal and you will have variety of dietary needs.

WILL I GET WATER ALONG THE WAY?

We will provide you boiled water. At Every morning, you will get plenty water from us, and after every lunch you will get more water from us, even if you need water at night just let us know.

Is there a student discount?

Runas Expeditions gives student discounts of %25. You only need to send us your scanned student card at booking time, and your price will be adjusted accordingly.

WHAT TIME WILL I GET BACK TO CUSCO?

We give you all the chance to enjoy more the Inca city Machu Picchu. Our transportation back to Cusco is not early and not late. That’s why we have to book in advance too, because the Train Company Peru Rail provides us all departure times. You will get back to Cusco between 7pm to 8pm.

WHAT TIME WILL I ARRIVE AT MACHUPICCHU?

When you are coming from the Inca Trail, you will arrive to MachuPicchu around 7:30am. But if you are doing any others tour you will arrive to MachuPicchu between 6:30am to 7am or depend on your bokking time.

IS THERE ANY OTHERS THINGS TO DO AT MACHUPICCHU?

After the guiding tour you will have plenty of time to visit by yourself. If you book for the extra climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Macho Picchu Mountain you can do it, or you can go to the Inca Bridge or you can go the Sun Gate or you can just explore at the Inca city.

WHY AND HOW MUCH SHOULD WE TIP THE PORTERS?

Runas Expeditions fully complies with the porter’s Law (27608) requirements of payment and insurance. However, tipping is a tradition on the Inca Trail or any trek that has been taking place for the 20 years as a way of showing the porters your gratitude. Generally the groups prepare a collective tip which is shared out between the cook, head porter and porters. Suggested amount to tip is 90 soles to each porter and 250 soles the cook, from the whole group not from each tourist.
Please Note: to tip to the porters is a personal decision and it is optional.

SHOULD I TIP THE GUIDE?

Tipping the guide is again a personal decision. If you decide to tip we recommend that it is according their performance, knowledge and skills while on the trail. Guides are tipped individually at the end of the trek and tipping depends on their performance!

WHAT HAPPENED IF I GET SICK DO I NEED TO TURN BACK?

We have a very low rate of people turning back once on the trek. Our priority is to help you complete it; all our guides are properly trained and carry a first aid kit and a bottle of oxygen for emergencies. Please do not think about this, be positive mind and definitely you are in good hands.
In the exceptional case that a trekker decides to head back once they have started the trek, they must pay additional expenses such as food, lodging and transportation. On the last day the tourist will be able to rejoin the group and participate in the Machu Picchu tour.

No refund will be given.

Day 1: Arrival to Cusco – City Tour afternoon

Upon arrival to the city of Cusco, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. At yoy hotel, you will receive a brief orientation about your trip and then you will have free time in the morning to acclimatize. In the afternoon, your private guide will pick you up from your hotel at 1 pm to begin city Tour of Cusco, our first stop will be the main square, where you will get the first inca lesson.

After touring this sacred main square, you will continue on foot with your group through the ancient Inca-era streets to Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun). This particular site was a key spiritual center of the Ancient Incas, and as such, has some of the most impressive architectural techniques. From Qorikancha we will head to the famous archeological site (Sacsayhuaman). The Sacsayhuaman site is famous for its architectural complexity, including monolithic stones weighing as much as 200 tons. Your guide will explain this phenomenal site and will leave you time to explore it on your own.

From Sacsayhuaman it will be a 5-minute bus ride to the Q’enqo Inca site, famous for its sacrificial area inside a cave, then another short ride to Puca Pucara, a small fortress guarding the area around Cusco. The final stop on our tour will be Tambomachay (Temple of water) with its impressive water fountains. We’ll then drive back down to Cusco where the tour ends at your hotel.

Day 2: Cusco – Pisaq Ruins – Urubamba – Ollantaytambo

We will pick you up at your hotel lobby at 7:30 a.m. Then we’ll take you to the first destination.

The first place we will visit is Dos Manos. We will stop here for about 30 minutes to enjoy the largest alpaca farm in the Sacred Valley. You will be able to observe different types of South American camelids, such as llamas, alpacas, guanacos, and vicuñas. There will be opportunities to take photos and feed the animals. To support the local community, you may also purchase handmade souvenirs, but this is completely optional. Then we visit the view point of the Sacred Valley “lookout point”, where you’ll have the impressive views of the valley, Mountains, snow-cap Mountain and much more, and also your tour guide will give you background information. Following our tour we´ll drive to Pisaq the first Inca archaeological site. Here you can see magnificent views of the Inca remains, terraces, over 300 Inca tombs, army sector, and temples, etc. We’ll have around 1 hour of exploring the site where your guide will explain all the information. Then before we return to the valley we’ll visit the most colorful and traditional local market Pisaq where you can purchase traditional textiles. 

Following we’ll drive to Urubamba for lunch, lunch is normally buffet but you can order menu as well. Then, we’ll drive through the Sacred Valley to the fabulous Ollantaytambo Inca site, which was the main checkpoint to protect Machu Picchu against enemy and also it has the most impressive temple of the sun. Moreover you’ll appreciate the most intact Inca town. After tour, your private guide will take you to your hotel in Ollantaytambo.

Day 3: Maras Salt Mines – Moray Ruins – Chinchero – Aguas Calientes

After breakfast at your hotel in Ollantaytambo, we’ll depart at 8:00 am to Salineras – also known as the salt pans of Maras—which was the main salt supply for the nearby towns of the Sacred Valley and the Inca Empire, developed by the Inca to harvest salt through evaporation. Nowadays, there are more than 3,000 salt ponds, and they are still in use today and are carefully maintained by a close community with regulations and rules that date back to the time of the Inca. These pools are owned by local farmers and become the main economic activity for all the locals.

Afterwards, we continue to the stunning archaeological site of Moray—circular agricultural terraces excavated deep in the ground that are preserved to this day. The Inca used Moray as a way to study farming, or for experimental with micro-climates and get different crops. The archaeological site of Moray is also one of the most photographed sites in the area. Depending on the time, weill stop either before or after Moray to grab lunch.

We’ll then drive to the town of Chinchero, believed by the Incas to be the birthplace of the rainbow. DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU AND BACK TO CUSCO

Today starts your magical day to explore Machu Picchu. We’ll wake up and have breakfast early in the morning, after breakfast, we take a bus up for 30 minutes to Machu Picchu to get into it to see the lost city of the Incas almost with no so mamy people. Once in you have time for pictures, time to enjoy the views.

Afterwards, your private Guide will give you the guided tour for 2 ½ hours to get to know everything about Machu Picchu. Then you have free time to explore the magic city of the Incas on your own. If you like you can hike to the sun gate or the Inca bridge.

If you book in advance Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu montaña, you climb one of these mountains. WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE OF MY TRAIN TICKET?

It will depend on the train availability. We usually book the 7:05 pm schedule from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes on day 1 and the return train ticket is at 02:55 pm so you arrive to Cusco at 06:45 pm and you have enough time sleep and do any tour next day.

Day 1: Sacsaywaman – Pisaq Ruins – Urubamba – Ollantaytambo

We will pick you up at your hotel lobby at 7:30 a.m. Then we’ll take you to the first destination, Saqsaywaman, the most incredible ruins built by the Incas civilization. Although the site was religious, the Spanish considered it a military fortress because of its location. The Sacsaywaman Inca site is also famous for its architectural complexity, including monolithic stones weighing as much as 120 tons.

Then, we’ll follow towards the Sacred Valley. On the way, we will visit Dos Manos. We will stop here for about 30 minutes to enjoy the largest alpaca farm in the Sacred Valley. You will be able to observe different types of South American camelids, such as llamas, alpacas, guanacos, and vicuñas. There will be opportunities to take photos and feed the animals. To support the local community, you may also purchase handmade souvenirs, but this is completely optional. 

Following, we will stop at mirador “look out” to take the official photos of the sacred valley where the views are impressive. Then we’ll drive to the archaeological site of Pisaq where we’ll see hundreds of terraces for agriculture, largest Inca tombs, Inca army sector, the sun temple and the astronomical side of the Incas.

Afterwards, we’ll descend and visit the Pisaq market, the most traditional handicraft market, where you can purchase some souvenirs. Following we’ll drive to Urubamba for lunch, lunch is buffet at the best restaurant in the sacred Valley. Then, we’ll drive through to the fabulous Ollantaytambo Inca site, which was the main checkpoint to protect Machu Picchu against enemy and also it has the most impressive temple of the sun. Moreover you’ll appreciate the most intact Inca town. After tour, your private guide will take you to your hotel in Ollantaytambo.

Day 2: Maras Salt Mines – Moray Ruins – Chinchero – Aguas Calientes

After breakfast at your hotel in Ollantaytambo, we’ll depart at 7:20 am to Salineras – also known as the salt pans of Maras—which was the main salt supply for the nearby towns of the Sacred Valley and the Inca Empire, developed by the Inca to harvest salt through evaporation. Nowadays, there are more than 3,000 salt ponds, and they are still in use today and are carefully maintained by a close community with regulations and rules that date back to the time of the Inca. These pools are owned by local farmers and become the main economic activity for all the locals.

Afterwards, we continue to the stunning archaeological site of Moray—circular agricultural terraces excavated deep in the ground that are preserved to this day. The Inca used Moray as a way to study farming, or for experimental with micro-climates and get different crops. The archaeological site of Moray is also one of the most photographed sites in the area. Depending on the time, weill stop either before or after Moray to grab lunch.

Day 1: WELCOME TO CUSCO / CUSCO CITY TOUR– INCA RUINS

Upon your arrival at Cusco airport, you will be greeted by our representative, holding a small board written your name on it and then, you will be transferred to your hotel. At your hotel you will receive a briefing about the trip to Cusco, then you will be free time for you to relax and to start to acclimatize to the altitude.

In the afternoon; at 1 pm, we will meet you at your hotel lobby to begin your Cusco city tour. From here, you will head to Cusco main square, where we will introduce you to the Imperial City of Cusco, a living example of the mix of Andean and Spanish culture. Following, you will continue on foot through an ancient Inca-built street from the Plaza de Armas to the Q’oricancha, the Temple of the Sun.

In Coricancha you will be able to compare and contrast the building methods of the Incan culture and Catholicism. After receiving a comprehensive guided tour, we continue our tour by van for 25 minutes outside of the city. To visit the majestic Inca site, known as, Sacsawaman, set on a hilltop overlooking Cusco and its enigmatic, 200-ton monoliths.

From Sacsayhuaman, you’ll take 10 minutes to drive to Qenqo (Inca Amphitheater), we then drive 10 more minutes to Tambomachay (Temple of the Water), then visit Puca Pucara (Inca Checkpoint). We’ll then drive back down to Cusco where the tour ends at your Hotel.

DAY 2: CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY – AGUAS CALIENTES

We are coming to pick you at your hotel with our private transportation at 7:30 a.m. And then we go in direction to our journey.

The first place we will visit is Dos Manos. We will stop here for about 30 minutes to enjoy the largest alpaca farm in the Sacred Valley. Then we visit the view point of the Sacred Valley “lookout point”, where you’ll have the impressive views of the valley, Mountains, snow-cap Mountain and much more, and also your tour guide will give you background information. Following our tour we´ll drive to Pisaq the first Inca archaeological site. Here you can see magnificent views of the Inca remains, terraces, over 300 Inca tombs, army sector, and temples, etc. We’ll have around 1 ½ hours of exploring the site where your guide will explain all the information. Then before we return to the valley we’ll visit the most colorful and traditional local market Pisaq where you can purchase traditional textiles. 

The journey continues as we’ll drive along the beautiful valley with great scenery, you will be able to see the corn farmlands, the potatoes, the incredible quinoa and much more, which are farming on the Inca terraces. We’ll arrive at Urubamba town around 12:00 pm for our lunch. You will have an amazing selection of fresh dishes, served buffet-style in the best restaurant in the sacred valley. Afterwards we will drive for 30 minutes more to get the last Inca ruins known as Ollantaytambo.

Ollantaytambo Inca archaeological site was built with pink granite rocks where you can see the second biggest rock from the Inca’s time. This living Incan town displays narrow walkways, lined with water channels.

Afterwards, You´ll board the train from Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes town, which is 1hour and 45 minutes journey. When you will be arriving in Aguas Calientes town you will be taken by your tour guide who will drop you off at your accommodation. At Aguas Calientes town you will have free time to do whatever you want to do for the nightlife. And also you can have dinner at any places there are so many choices. You’ll send the night in a nice hotel in Aguas Calientes Town.

DAY 3: MACHU PICCHU AND BACK TO CUSCO

Today starts your magical day to explore Machu Picchu. We’ll wake up and have breakfast early in the morning, after breakfast, we take a bus up for 30 minutes to Machu Picchu to get into it to see the lost city of the Incas almost with no so mamy people. Once in you have time for pictures, time to enjoy the views.

Afterwards, your private Guide will give you the guided tour for 2 ½ hours to get to know everything about Machu Picchu. Then you have free time to explore the magic city of the Incas on your own. If you like you can hike to the sun gate or the Inca bridge.

If you book in advance Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu montaña, you climb one of these mountains. After Machupicchu, you go back to Aguas Calientes to have a delicious lunch in one of the restaurants in town, in the afternoon you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo, and from Ollantaytambo we’ll transfer you to Cusco to your hotel.

In order to book your Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu 2 days tour with us, we will need a deposit of $200 per person. Once we get your deposit, we will send you a confirmation of your trip and the booking form to fill out. Here is all the detail that you need to send us.

HOW TO MAKE A DEPOSIT?

We are Unable to accept any bookings without completed booking form and deposit sent to Runas Expeditions. All deposits are $200 per person and are non-refundable.

HOW ABOUT THE STUDENT DISCOUNT?

According to Peruvian Law, you have to be under 18 years old at the time of your visit to Machu Piccu 2 days (if you are 18 or over, you need valid student cards). Below is the sample of valid student card

All students from 11 to 17 years old have a discount of $25 USD.

For children from 2 to 11 years old have a discount is $25 USD.

MAY I CHANGE DEPARTURE DATE AFTER THE PERMITS HAVE BEEN PURCHASED?

Yes, it is possible. But you have to pay the penalty of 25% of deposit which Peru rail and Machu Picchu office charges us.

DO I NEED TO BRING MY ORIGINAL PASSPORT ON THE MACHU PICCHU 2 DAY TOUR?

Yes! You must bring your original passport and it is very important that it should be same passport you sent us to reserve your Machu Picchu ticket. Your passport will be checked at Machu Picchu checkpoint and when you board the train.

 UPDATING PASSPORT NUMBERS

If you are renewing your passport, go ahead and email us a copy of your old passport to book your Machu Picchu ticket. If you no longer have your old passport, any government issue ID will be accepted, as long as the name is the same. Once you receive your new passport. Please email us a copy of your new passport ASAP to change the information of your ticket.

WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE OF MY TRAIN TICKET?

It will depend on the train availability. We usually book the 7:05 pm schedule from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes on day 1 and the return train ticket is at 02:55 pm so you arrive to Cusco at 06:45 pm and you have enough time sleep and do any tour next day.

DAY 1: CUSCO – CHINCHERO – MORAY – MARAS SALT MINES – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES.

The Sacred Valley Tour Via Maras Salt Mines, begins with an early morning pick-up at 7 a.m. from your accommodation in Cusco to drive toward the high mountain village of Chinchero (Western side of the Sacred Valley). CHINCHERO — is a small village with beautiful views of the Sacred Valley and famous for its weaving and spectacularly sited at high altitude (3,800 mt./12,500 ft.). In this charming village, you will see adobe homes, narrow cobbled streets, and people in traditional Peruvian dress. Chinchero known as the weaver town, we will also visit a town that has retained many traditions, resulting in exceptional handicrafts and woven goods (we will be witness to a live demonstration of handmade souvenirs and the use of simple instruments and natural dyes). Besides, we´ll visit the ruins of Chinchero and then, we continue driving to the lookout of Raqchi to take in the view of the Urubamba Valley. This part of the valley is filled with crops that dress the mountains like carpets. (the best place to get nice quality souvenirs is from Chinchero)

We will then continue our trip to Incan agricultural lab known MORAY — is an archaeological site located to the northwest of Cusco on a high plateau at about 3,500 mt. (11,500 ft) and just west of the village of Maras. This Inca site contains unusual Inca ruins, mostly consisting of several terraced circular depressions, the largest of which is approximately 30 m (98 ft) deep. As with many other Inca sites, it also has an irrigation system. Here, our guide will transmit you the history of this impressive Inca ruins on the mountain top. After learning how Incas cleverly designed a drainage system at the bottom of the terraces in order to avoid flooding during the rainy season, we drive down to SALT MINES OF MARAS — at this amazing site, you can see the pans fed by saline spring water that was built on steep terraces along one side of a narrow valley. The water is sent throughout the pans by a network of channels where the water slowly evaporates leaving the salt behind. Salt has been collected from Maras since Pre-Incan times and it is thought that a collective of salt ‘miners’ has maintained the terraces and channels for hundreds of years. 

The journey continues as we’ll drive along the beautiful valley with great scenery, you will be able to see the corn farmlands, the potatoes, the incredible quinoa and much more. We’ll arrive toward Urubamba town around 13:00 pm for our lunch. You will have an amazing selection of fresh dishes, served buffet-style (Lunch is included). Afterwards we will drive for 30 minutes more to get the last Inca ruins known as Ollantaytambo.

Ollantaytambo Inca archaeological site was built with pink granite rocks where you can see the second biggest rock from the Inca’s time. This living Incan town displays narrow walkways, lined with water channels.

Afterwards, You´ll board the train from Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes town, which is 1hour and 45 minutes journey. When you will be arriving in Aguas Calientes town you will be taken by your tour guide who will drop you off at your accommodation. At Aguas Calientes town you will have free time to do whatever you want to do for the nightlife. And also you can have dinner at any places there are so many choices. You’ll send the night in a nice 3star hotel in Aguas Calientes Town.

As option you can enjoy the hot spring in Aguas Calientes town which is about 10 minutes away from your hotel.

DAY 2: MACHU PICCHU AND BACK TO CUSCO

The next morning of your journey you’ll have early breakfast and you’ll go to the bus stop where you can take the bus that will take you to the Citadel of Machu Picchu, it’s a 30 minutes journey. Once you get in one of the new seven wonder “Machu Picchu” your private tour guide will explain to you all the history and will give you a tour through the stones paths so you get to appreciate all constructions.

In Machu Picchu you will find many buildings made of well carved stones, big rocks that they used to transport from the top of the mountains to the Citadel, and many feats that they achieved without the machines that are currently used, also many constructions that had holded many earthquakes without damages.

You will have time to take a freely walk through Machu Picchu before we descend to Aguas Calientes where you will take the return train to Ollantaytambo where our guide and driver will wait for you to transfer you to your hotel in Cusco.
